The County of Fresno Department of Child Support Services is offering a challenging and rewarding promotional opportunity for a highly motivated individual interested in pursuing career advancement as a  Supervising Child Support Officer.

The Supervising Child Support Officer responsibilities include providing day-to-day supervision including interviewing, selecting, training, assigning, evaluating, and disciplining staff. Additional responsibilities include planning, implementing, and evaluating work processes and procedures; developing, implementing, and enforcing work standards; assisting in development of department policies and procedures; reviewing completed work to ensure compliance with legal requirements; recommending staffing and equipment for the budget; and handling the most complex and sensitive cases.

As a condition of employment, candidate's child support case, education, and employment histories, along with any criminal records will be reviewed. A live scan fingerprint check will also be required.

Note: The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. The individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.

Positions in this classification are in MEDICAL GROUP I - Light Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require only light physical effort and may include lifting of small, light objects and some bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Considerable walking or standing may be involved.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must qualify under one (1) of the options listed below:

OPTION 1:

Education: Completion of sixty (60) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.

Experience: Four (4) years of full-time, paid work experience equivalent to that gained as a Child Support Officer with the County of Fresno; one (1) year of the experience must be equivalent to that gained as a Senior Child Support Officer with the County of Fresno.

OPTION 2:

Education: Completion of thirty (30) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.

Experience: Four (4) years of full-time, paid work experience equivalent to that gained as a Child Support Officer with the County of Fresno; one (1) year of the experience must be equivalent to that gained as a Senior Child Support Officer with the County of Fresno.

AND

One (1) year of full-time, paid public contact work experience which involved: interviewing and obtaining information from the public; conducting financial calculations and/or transactions; or applying collection principles, gathering financial information, and scheduling payments.

OPTION 3:

Experience: Four (4) years of full-time, paid work experience equivalent to that gained as a Child Support Officer with the County of Fresno; one (1) year of the experience must be equivalent to that gained as a Senior Child Support Officer with the County of Fresno.

AND

Two (2) years of full-time, paid public contact work experience which involved: interviewing and obtaining information from the public; conducting financial calculations and/or transactions; or applying collection principles, gathering financial information, and scheduling payments.

The following information is in addition to the options listed above:

License: Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.

Other: Ability to type at least thirty (30) net words per minute.

SELECTION PROCESS

Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and filing requirements, applicants may be scheduled for one or more of the processes listed below:
  • Written Examination.
  • Oral Examination - An oral examination includes a panel consisting of at least two members within a similar field of expertise as the vacancy. Candidates are asked structured questions and must respond orally to allow the panel to evaluate the specific qualifications of each applicant.

Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list, effective for a minimum of 3 months (which may be extended for an additional 12 months) and will be certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
