Position Summary/Essential Duties:

Assists healthcare providers in the ambulatory setting.

  1. Obtain patient past and present ocular and general medical history
  2. Perform visual acuity
  3. Perform diagnostic testing, including, but not limited to refractometry, visual field testing, axial length, keratometry, corneal topography, pachymetry, intraocular pressure check, retinoscopy, and photography.

4.)  Assist physician with minor office surgery.

  1. Provide other patient services and education as requested by the physicians
  2. Takes responsibility for self-development and supports a learning environment
  3. Uses interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other customers
  4. Provides age specific care to patients from toddlers through elderly

Education/Expertise:

High school diploma required

Completion of a 1-2 year accredited Ophthalmic Tech program or 2 years work experience as a Certified Ophthalmic Tech

Recertification of COT through CMEs

 

 

Required Credentials, License and/or Certifications:

COT

CPR

 

 

Experience & Knowledge:

Minimum of 2 years prior experience as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant

Demonstrated skill in interpersonal relationships

Ability to work independently in a high stress environment

Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:

Use of diagnostic and patient care equipment and general office equipment, including telephone, pager, and fax machines.  Basic computer skills required.
