Job Title: Program Associate

Reports to: Communications & Outreach Director

Classification: Full-time, non-exempt (40 hours per week)

Location: San Francisco, CA (Our Office is located in the historic Flood Building, steps away from the Powell Street BART)

About CalNonprofits

CalNonprofits is the "chamber of commerce" for California's nonprofit community. We are a growing statewide policy coalition with more than 10,000 members. Under the leadership of our CEO, Jan Masaoka, we are an innovative and responsive alliance with a focus on advocacy and education. We have a small staff in our main office in San Francisco, with additional offices in Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Capitola. We are active in various nonprofit policy-related issues and maintain educational and advocacy programs that benefit nonprofits, their employees and the communities they work in, including the Nonprofit Student Debt Project, the Nonprofit Overhead Project, and more.

The Opportunity

The Program Associate is a key position in ensuring the smooth operation of CalNonprofits, with a focus on membership support and office administration. This person will be the primary point of contact for CalNonprofits members, with the opportunity to deepen relationships with a wide variety of nonprofits across California. The Program Associate will work with nonprofits from all subsectors and geographies and have the opportunity to learn about policy advocacy and the "business" of running a nonprofit organization.

While this role is focused on administrative support, for the right candidate, there is also room to grow and expand these responsibilities into other areas (like communications and event planning).

Key Responsibilities

Program support (75%)

  • Provide outstanding constituent service and warm connections for members and prospective members.
  • As part of the team, contribute to strategy discussions and implementation plans.
  • Support in-person events and webinars.
  • Effectively articulate CalNonprofits' mission and programs to a variety of audiences.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with member benefit vendors and other partners.
  • Support in-person events and webinars.

Administrative Support (25%)

  • Manage CRM database, provide reporting in support of advocacy and other programs.
  • Administrative support including bulk mailings, ordering printed materials and office supplies, filing, copying, and spreadsheet preparation.
  • Manage office equipment, including printers, computers, phones, and postage machine.
  • Liaison with San Francisco building manager.

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working in membership, development/donor relations, customer service or related role in a nonprofit organization or trade association
  • Experience working with database(s), with a commitment to data integrity and meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills in English via phone, email, and social media
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an outgoing and open personal style; emotional intelligence to offer superior customer service to our members and community
  • Intermediate MS Office proficiency including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Excellent internet/web skills
  • Desire to learn more about public policy and nonprofits
  • Willingness to pitch-in when and where needed

Additional "nice to have" qualifications

  • Experience using Apple products/systems
  • Experience with event production
  • Experience working with staff members in different locations

CalNonprofits offers generous benefits, plus earning 15 days of PTO in your first year. Compensation

$24 - $26/hour
