Summary


King County is looking for veterans, or those currently serving active duty in the National Guard or any reserve component of the U.S. military who are creative problem solvers with a desire to serve the people of King County. Successful candidates will be placed in veteran fellowship positions where they will have an opportunity to immerse themselves into a challenging role at King County.
 
 Our organization strongly values the leadership skills, teamwork, problem-solving, mission oriented and multi-cultural awareness that military service personnel offer. The 
Vets 4 HIRE Program was created to support veterans in making a successful transition from military to civilian employment and to provide a pipeline of skilled military talent for positions within King County. Fellowships offer opportunities and training to increase valuable skills or knowledge attained as a service member. Our goal through this program is to help participants secure future employment within King County or other civilian employers after completion of the veteran fellowship.

 POSITIONS ARE CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENT AND A FULL LIST OF FELLOWSHIPS WILL BE FOUND ON OUR 
Vets4Hire PAGE. 
 
 Vets 4 HIRE positions will be: 
 

  • in a variety of career fields; AND 
  • in a variety of King County departments; AND 
  • full-time or part-time, AND 
  • six months to one year in duration depending on the needs of the King County hiring agency and available funding.
Candidates must meet the Vets 4 HIRE eligibility requirements to be placed in an eligible candidate pool. Candidates may be considered for multiple opportunities.
 

These fellowship opportunities will vary from 24-40 hours per week and last for six months or longer depending on the hiring department's needs and available funding. Fellowship experiences cannot exceed a total of 2080 hrs. (which is equivalent to one year working 40 hrs./wk.). Specific work hours and location will vary based on assignment.
   
The work associated with these positions may be performed 
remotely, in person, or a combination of the two depending on the nature of the assignment and needs of the organization. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to any workplace reporting requirements. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations

Supplemental Information

BENEFITS:
 

  • .025 hours of sick leave accruals for each hour worked 
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits (for the veteran and their qualifying dependents) for positions that are projected to work 30 or more hours per week (not available to positions projected to work less than 30 hours per week) 
  • ORCA bus pass 
  • Please note, veteran fellow positions are not eligible for vacation leave, holiday pay, or retirement programs


 COMPENSATION: (Is based on highest military rank held OR education level.)
 

  • Veteran Fellow I - $19.33 - $24.50 - High School graduate; or pursuing BA; or enlisted grade E1 – E3
  • Veteran Fellow II - $21.77 - $27.59 - Possess BA; or pursuing Masters; or enlisted
       grade E4 – E6
  • Veteran Fellow III - $27.59 - $34.97 - Completed Masters or Officer rank, or enlisted grade E7 – E9

  • A cover letter is not required at this stage of the recruitment process. Candidates placed in the pool of eligible participants will be email notified of specific opportunities as they arise. At that time, they will be asked to submit a cover letter (for each specific position) describing how they meet the qualifications AND how the position will support them in meeting their career goals.

A copy of your DD 214 or other proof of military service will be required upon hire. You may also attach proof of military service to your online application.
