Job Summary

Collaborates with Manager of Sports Medicine Poogram, Practice Manager, orthopaedic physicians and other appropriate departments to develop, plan, market and implement SHMG Sports and Orthopaedic Medicine Program. Identifies short and long-term planning and business development/marketing strategies for the Program. Supervises athletic trainers and practices as an Athletic Trainer in the clinic and field.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for sports and orthopaedic program development. Identifies and communicates needs for additional service programs. Provides input into the strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of service/program. Measures the outcomes of care and evaluate services across the continuum of inpatient to outpatient services. Makes recommendations to improve the quality of patient care provided and utilizes the scientific method of research clinical problems.
  • Is responsible for the operation of treatment headquarters at off-site locations. The modalities, equipment and supplies used in these treatment areas, as well as the general cleanliness of the treatment areas, are under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Sports Medicine.
  • Is responsible for preparing the players, patients, or other constituents under care for designated activities by exercising, preventative taping and bandaging techniques, and overseeing the warm-up and flexibility periods. The Supervisor of Sports Medicine may be required to cover contracted agreements with community and business partners. Will remain on 24-hour call during the time designated.
  • Is responsible for working with the orthopaedic physicians in planning, organization and implementation of required pre-participation/pre-employment examinations. Will also work directly with the orthopaedic providers and community/business partners to determine when it is medically safe for an ill or injured individual to return to activities.
  • Rehabilitation of injured individuals following injury or surgery is a primary concern of the Athletic Trainer. This responsibility must be followed by the Athletic Trainer from onset of injury, to the acquisition of a diagnosis by the Orthopaedic Physician, through the conservative or surgical procedures necessary to provide the best possible repair for the individuals, through a reconditioning program aimed at restoring the injured individual to his/her pre-injury fitness level or a level determined by the orthopaedic physician to allow a return to activities.
  • Supervises the activities of staff who are engaged in providing athletic training services. Provides direction and support to subordinate staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, payroll, and training employees; planning and assigning work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Facilitates efficient and effective patient flow through the clinic. Triage patients as directed by physicians, and other providers. Provides patient instruction as directed by physicians, and other providers. Collects and monitors patient data, reporting patient data and patient needs to physicians, and other providers. Documents care consistent with documentation guidelines, and patient chargeable items/ services according to standards.

Qualifications
  • Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, Health & Physical Education or related field
  • Preferred Master's Degree Health & Physical Education or related field
  • Skills, knowledge, abilities typically gained through 5+ years of related experience Required
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in athletic training or sports medicine. Required
  • LIC-Athletic Trainer License - STATE_MI State of Michigan
  • CRT-Athletic Trainer, Certified - BOC Board of Certification and Accreditation
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross
