Job Description

The Development Associate will provide administrative assistance to the Director of Advancement, Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM), the Director of Major Gifts, Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center, and the Associate Director of Development for Leadership Gifts, VMCVM. Serves as the office receptionist and provides frontline customer service. Coordinates and schedules meetings, manages calendars, and makes travel arrangements. Fully processes donations and deposits. Assists the Development team with travel-related details, including the reconciliation of expense accounts and extracting summary information to develop financial reports. Assists in preparation of reports and correspondence, edits and proofs written materials, ensures smooth work flow, and facilitates interaction within and outside the university in support of VMCVM events. Assists the Director of Advancement with special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate must have strong demonstrated experience providing administrative support to multiple individuals in an academic or professional office setting; ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office independently managing multiple assignments, prioritizing and meeting deadlines; must have proficiency in computer skills such as electronic mail, scheduling, word processing, presentations, spreadsheets and internet navigation; experience with budgeting and bookkeeping; demonstrated ability to compose correspondence and draft/edit event materials; experience with computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact respectfully and comfortably with all individuals in a diverse, multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Animal-related major, Business, Management, English, Communication, or related field; experience with large relational databases such as Blackbaud, experience providing administrative support to those who are responsible for all aspects of organizing, planning and budgeting of fundraising activities; experience in project management to ensure quality completion of projects.
