Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains pertinent clinical pharmacy programs with Director's guidance, designed to maximize pharmacotherapeutic and pharmacoeconomic benefits from patient outcomes.
  • Participates in clinical rounds with the medical staff providing patient care recommendations on pharmacotherapy, drug dosages, assessing drug interactions, adverse effects and pharmacokinetics.
  • Supervises all activities of the department's clinical staff and students and in accordance with federal, state and local laws and in compliance with the requirements of the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. 
  • Encourages clinical staff to participate in the development of goals and objectives through strategic planning and establishes clinical policies and procedures, which incorporate into operational actions.
  • Maintains close liaison with organization-wide clinical and administrative departments, medical staff and medical, nursing, and pharmacy students; monitors programs and reports to the Director the potential and resource requirements of the department.
  • Promotes development and training programs for all pharmacy staff to improve the clinical competency and performance of all levels of pharmacy personnel. Evaluates all activities of the  clinical staff and students in areas of clinical competency
  • Supervises affliated clinical training programs for pharmacy students (interns, externs, and clerkships).
  • Acts as clinical phamacy representative to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee (P&T) and assists in developing Medication Use Evaluation Plan in conjunction with key members of the medical staff.
  • Encourages and supports department efforts to publish and present at professional meetings.
  • Identifies potential candidates for positions of higher responsibility and plans/assists in developmental experiences.

Qualifications

  • Louisiana licensed pharmacist or eligible. 
  • B.S. or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy; a Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-graduate clinical pharmacist experience in institutional pharmacy; preferably 5 or more years of progressive clinical and managerial experience.
  • Board Certified in a pharmacy practice specialty helpful
