We are seeking an experienced Network Operations Supervisor to fill a Term Limited Temporary (TLT), IT Services Supervisor position that will be responsible for managing technical staff supporting King County enterprise network services. We are looking for a highly motivated leader with strong verbal and written communication skills that can motivate and lead team members, provide guidance and assistance to staff in the performance of their job duties, and work with business customers, senior leadership, and cross departmental teams to deliver a reliable and high quality service to our partners. This position will serve as the escalation point for challenges presented to the group and with our service responsibilities. A strong technical background in enterprise network services and internet service provider services is desired.

Duration
This position is estimated for a duration of 3 years.

Work Schedule
The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be considered. This position is not eligible for overtime pay.

Job Duties

  • Lead a group of professional information technology staff in assigned function
  • Provide guidance and assistance to staff in the performance of their duties       
  • Coach, motivate and evaluate job performance; conduct performance evaluations
  • Create team and individual goals; work with staff on development and training plans
  • Develop and adhere to network security and compliance efforts
  • Develop, post, and report on the health of the service (KPI's) and focus on continuous improvement for the service area
  • Create and maintain the Network service standards and maintenance protocols
  • Participate in establishing KCIT Network rates and budget; identify cost savings and reduce expenditures
  • Work with vendors and staff to develop procurement activities in support of technical initiatives and ensure vendors meet contractual requirements    
  • Plan, direct, maintain and coordinate network installation, maintenance and operations
  • Act as an escalation point where technical issues can be escalated to troubleshoot and solve problems occurring within the group and the service
  • Work with other King County departments and external customers to provide Network services and support; resolve customer complaints
  • Ensure projects and activities are delivered on schedule and adhere to established standards

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Experience in IT Operations with emphasis on network technologies
  • Experience supervising/leading technical staff setting performance expectations, developing performance measures, conducting performance evaluation, providing coaching and feedback, giving performance appraisals and administering discipline, working in a politically sensitive environment
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully direct the work of IT professionals, develop staff and invite input from each member of the staff, thus sharing ownership and visibility
  • Demonstrate proactive customer service, understanding their needs and issues and using the information for improvements, establishing and maintaining effective relationships, ultimately gaining their trust and respect
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments with deadlines, communicate network issues effectively and in a comprehensible manner with partners and team members
  • Skill in building consensus and coming to a resolution with a diverse group of individuals, handling multiple competing priorities and resolving road blocks, developing timely, consistent, performance management to align objectives with strategic and operational goals
  • Knowledge of network architecture, designing and managing LAN, WAN, and VoIP networks, network-layered approach, network management/ analysis/ monitoring tools
  • General understanding of multi-vendor network devices such as Cisco, Cradlepoint, CheckPoint, etc., network devices installation and operation, rollback and failovers handling, networking IOS (IOS, IOS-XE, IOS-XR, NX-OS)

Desirable Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or equivalent years of work experience
  • Technical certifications related to Information Technology, Scrum, Lean or other process improvement methodologies
  • Experience managing in a union environment
  • Experience with ITIL
