Director of Academic Advising & Retention
Academic Advising Department

The Director of Academic Advising & Retention reports to the Dean of Student Services and is responsible for improving the quality of academic advising by providing information, advice and assistance to students, directs the activities of the advising department. Stay abreast of the research, theories, legislation policies, technology, and developments that affect services provided by the Advising Department. Support and assist advisors in management of special projects, i.e. Scholarship Program, New Student Orientation, Scholarship Program, Disability Services, International Students, and other campus programs. Requires a Master’s degree in education, guidance, counseling, student development, or related discipline. Requires three years’ experience providing effective academic advising to students in higher education. Supervise Academic Advisor, Scholarship Coordinator and Disability Services Coordinator positions. Position is security sensitive and subject to Texas education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
