Job Description:

SUNY Orange is fulfilling a vital role in the innovation, development and delivery of workforce training and certification programming that will spark greater economic development throughout Orange County and the entire Mid-Hudson Valley region.  Numerous opportunities exist, with more on the horizon, where the College can expand its regional non-credit workforce programming footprint in order to further realize its strategic goal of strengthening the region's economic future.  

The region's growing workforce is diverse and the College anticipates offering an array of programming that is as varied as the population it serves. The Vice President for Workforce, Strategy and Innovation will leverage existing partnerships and develop new relationships that will enable SUNY Orange to teach and train for a brighter tomorrow. This role will help define SUNY Orange as a realistic educational and training destination for all residents and work alongside the College's academic leadership to find pathways to degree completion for those whose first experience with SUNY Orange is as a non-credit student. The College recently launched Orange County FoodTEC, which provides workforce training related skills programming in support of the region's growing food, beverage and hospitality sectors; established locally relevant offerings such as Pharmacy Technician training and aligned with neighboring community colleges to build a cannabis consortium. Sponsored in part by the County of Orange, the College also boasts strong relationships with the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, the Orange County Partnership, Vision Hudson Valley, the Orange County Industrial Development Agency and many others whose mission it is to attract business and industry to the Hudson Valley, and to make the region a great place to live, work and play.

Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President for Workforce, Strategy and Innovation is responsible for providing leadership for the College's strategic and operational planning, and will develop and direct the strategic and long-range goals of the college including proposals to enter new markets and to expand existing market presence by building and maintaining strategic partnerships, directing and managing projects assigned by the President and Executive Leadership team.  This critical role leads grant development and administration, the Continuing and Professional Education programs, the Office of Institutional Planning and Research as well as provides strategic innovation around sustainability and green initiatives, while maintaining a strong commitment to operational assessment practices.  

The successful candidate will possess strong communication, leadership, and visionary skills that engage the College community in advancing excellence in teaching, learning, and supporting student success. The Vice President for Workforce, Strategy and Innovation will also have organizational and strategic planning experience and strong analytical data skills; demonstrated passion for higher learning and a commitment to inclusion and diversity as it relates to students, staff and faculty.


Requirements:

Education Required:    Master's degree

Experience Required:  Minimum of five years of progressively responsible administrative positions with an emphasis on growing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, building and maintaining relationships with community partners, as well as business and industry leaders; a demonstrated analytical disciplined approach and dynamic abstract problem-solving skills; project management skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Higher Education experience
  • Community College experience
  • Multi-campus environment
  • Experience with shared governance
  • Experience with collective bargaining groups
  • Strong leadership, program planning and organizational skills to develop, administer and advance a wide range of services across diverse functional areas
  • Grants writing and/or administration experience
  • Project Management experience 
  • Demonstrated administrative, problem solving, conflict resolution, collaboration, and crisis management skills
  • Must be able to travel between the College's two campuses and other sites.
  • Bilingual Skills.
