Office of Research Information Services (ORIS), a division of the Office of Research, coordinates, develops, and supports electronic research administration for faculty and staff at the University of Washington. Goals include:
  • Improve service to Principal Investigators (PIs) and research and administrative staff, enhance their ability to obtain funding, reduce their workload, and streamline the processing of their proposals.
  • Provide authorized individuals with convenient access to timely information on the status of proposals and awards.
  • Increase the efficiency of the research community to meet growing workload and compliance demands with limited resources.

    The University of Washington’s Office of Research Information Services has an outstanding opportunity for a full time Senior Software Developer.

    The Senior Software Developer is responsible for all aspects of application systems architectural strategy, design and development.  The incumbent will provide senior level systems architecture design, development, programming, implementation, with an emphasis on architecting systems for wide spread software integration capabilities.  The immediate need will be creating a solution architecture strategy that supports integration of in house developed solutions by Office of Research Information Services (ORIS) and Workday Financials.  Along with the specific need to support Workday integrations, the solutions developed must be long standing and support a multitude of existing and future administrative systems.

    The Office of Research’s constituency, and therefore that of this position, is the entire University, including UW branch campuses.

    In support of the Office of Research's mission, this position will provide technical leadership in the development of architecting  and implementing the integration of electronic research information systems with other UW enterprise systems.

    REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience architecting and developing production web applications and web services.

  • Experience in object-oriented design, development, implementation and support of object/relational database systems, web application design and development, user interface design and systems documentation.

  • Experience designing complex integrations with a focus on performance engineering and loose coupling utilizing APIs and Services.

  • Experience working in a Scrum-Agile environment.

  • Excellent time and priority management ability.

  • Excellent problem-solving/analytical abilities for solving program software logic conditions.

  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communications skills.

  • Ability to implement and to lead implementation of complex application development projects from beginning to end.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED:

  • Exposure to the Workday suite of applications/modules.

  • Experience with Workday data model, security, integrations and data load capabilities.

  • Experience using Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) successfully to deliver on unit and organizational goals.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    This position contributes in a collaborative team work environment.  Collaboration among the Software Developers, Project Managers, Business Analysts, and CX Support is done in a shared space working environment through ad hoc meetings focused on problem-solving, and the use of synchronous and asynchronous communication tools.  Non-standard working hours can be necessary.
