Job Description
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) in Rolla, Missouri seeks outstanding applicants for tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant or associate professor ranks. All areas within the fields of mechanical engineering will be considered. Applicants who can demonstrate linkage to applications in manufacturing are especially encouraged to apply. The application areas, such as robotics and intelligent and autonomous systems, digital manufacturing/data science, machine learning, renewable energy, and green manufacturing, are of special interest. The successful applicant will demonstrate alignment with one or more of S&T’s many multi-disciplinary, multi-investigator research centers and programs, including the Center for Aerospace Manufacturing Technology, the Intelligent Systems Center, the Center for Research in Energy and the Environment, the Center for Science, Technology, and Society, and the Kummer Institute.
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is the largest department on campus, and each of its degrees is largest of its kind in Missouri. The department has a long-established record of excellence in research, with five junior faculty having received CAREER and DoD Young Investigator awards in the last ten years, research grants received in FY23 exceeding $9,000,000 and several Ph.D. students receiving prestigious fellowships from NASA, NSF, and DoD. The department is also proud of its many award-winning teachers, and deeply values excellence in the classroom. The department includes 24 internationally recognized tenured/tenure-track faculty, 8 teaching faculty, 11 staff members, over 200 graduate students (including 90 Ph.D. students), over 1,000 undergraduate students, and over 12,000 living alumni. Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field at the prospective time of appointment in Fall 2024.
