General Description
The Student Services Generalist is the primary interface with students seeking Financial Aid Assistance into the College, along with providing administrative support in the Financial Aid Department.  The Generalist will be responsible to facilitating, the verification, evaluation and interpretation of documents submitted by students for financial aid programs, along with administrative support.
 
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
 

Assists students to complete the admission process by resolve unusual issues, and basic financial aid assistance.


 
Verifies, evaluates and interprets documents submitted by assigned student populations for financial aid programs; initiates follow up with applicants for clarification or additional documentation.
 
Assists with campus previews, new student orientations, parent orientations, financial literacy,
FAFSA
workshops, satisfactory academic progress, and other programs as assigned and provides on-going information to students, potential students, and parents regarding policies, programs, and procedures.
 
Assists with the administering and reconciling of institutional Scholarships.
 
·         Composes email correspondence to students and others concerning requests for information or processing of forms; mails standard response letters for routine requests.
 
·         Gathers, collates, and classifies information according to established methods.
 
·         Performs record maintenance   (e.g. creating label/folders, yearly file disposal, and organizing of files, etc.).
 
·         Operates a computer for word processing, data entry/retrieval and data management.
 
Utilizes scanning software for scanning/linking, data entry/retrieval, and data management.
 
May train and direct student workers or temporary employees.
 
Recommends improvements in department procedures.  Collaborates with other staff/administrators/faculty to identify needed improvements in procedures and communication.
 
Maintains records of students served and services provided.  Maintains essential records and files.
 
Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education Requirements
 
Bachelor’s degree required. 
Experience
 
·         Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
 
·         Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
 
·         Knowledge of Image Now software is preferred.

·         Must possess strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with students, the general public, faculty, and other staff members.
 
·         Must be a “quick study” in order to quickly grasp knowledge of policies and procedures relating to every aspect of student service that a prospective or current student may utilize.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
 
 
·         This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
 
·         Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
 
·         No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
 
·         Some travel required.
