Class Description

The purpose of this class is to assist academic departments with program development, advisement, interpretation, and implementation of a comprehensive retention program for special populations in career programs. 
 This is a grant funded position

Minimum Requirements

Associate degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Knowledge of Alcohol and Drug certification and licensure processes required. Two years of full-time experience working with community college students and under-resourced adults, Knowledge of best practices in student support and academic advising required.  Must have a valid Maryland driver’s license with moving violation points less than five (5).

Class Specific Essential Duties

  1. Provide career directions and guidance for students. 
  2. Support the student by providing assistance with college options and employment opportunities.
  3. Coordinate a functional process within assigned College department or division.
  4. Monitor compliance with department policies and procedures.
  5. Maintain department records and files, as required.
  6. Serve as point of contact for internal and external organizations.
  7. Represent the College and/or department at events, as required.
  8. Prepare, analyze and provide reports on miscellaneous subjects, as requested.

Position Specific Essential Duties

  1. Assist in the coordination of activities of the apprenticeship, internship, and cooperative work experience programs.
  2. Act as liaison between the Department and external stakeholders, such as employers, transfer institutions, or credentialing bodies.
  3. May supervise PT or FT staff positions or work-study students in the Department.
  4. Work collaboratively with the Dean, Program Director, faculty, Admissions, Counseling, Special Services and Student Success Center and other Student Services staff to develop retention activities for special population students indicating an interest in or enrolled in CCBC career programs.
  5. Assist in the development of informational and promotional literature for career programs.
  6. Support departmental activities in related Continuing Education programs.
  7. Advise and counsel prospective career students in the admission process and related academic matters.
  8. Provide academic and career advisement for current students.
  9. Provide study skills assistance through individual appointments, group, and in-class workshops designed to meet the needs of students.
  10. Assist students in accessing campus support services such as financial aid, mentoring, tutoring, career planning by referral to appropriate offices, providing follow-up as needed.
  11. Participate in Career Program Advisory Boards, as requested by department chairs and program coordinators.
  12. Maintain accurate records of student contacts in order to fulfill reporting requirements and to track student progress.
  13. Participate in the preparation of mid-year and end-of-year reports as necessary.
  14. Assure confidentiality with staff, faculty and clients as appropriate.
  15. Participate in evening and weekend on-and off-campus events relating to the program.
