This position will be reclassified to a Paralegal I once the King County Council ratifies the agreement between the King County Coalition of Unions and the County.

Salary: Range 44 -- $27.2471 hourly (Step One) - $34.5374 (Step Ten)*
 
Location: In-person/ Telecommute (Hybrid)- King County Courthouse Seattle
 
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Job Duties

 This position is responsible for a wide range of mid-level clerical responsibilities including:

  • Organizing large volumes of discovery, bates-stamping, redacting and routing discovery
  • Handling mail with attention to civil rules and procedure
  • Filing legal documents and serving documents on opposing counsel
  • Scheduling depositions and making travel arrangements for out-of-state victims and witnesses
  • Maintain electronic files, pleadings and forms
  • Assists paralegals with coordinating witnesses for trial and may take notes during witness interviews in the paralegals absence
  • Travel to McNeil Island to help paralegal with AV equipment during depositions
  • Performs related work as needed
  • Uses a variety of computer programs including Adobe Acrobat DC, PBK, Microsoft Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Willing to learn trial presentation software Ipro Trial Director 360
  • Other duties include phone support, general unit support and other projects as assigned by staff supervisor and unit chair
  • Other responsibilities may be added or changed as business needs evolve.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Knowledge of criminal justice system and office practices/procedures.  
  • Knowledge of Civil and Appellate practice a plus.  
  • Skill to express ideas and convey information effectively, orally and in writing. 
  • Skill to work under pressure and meet deadlines with a strong attention to detail.  
  • Excellent spelling, grammar & organization skills.  
  • Follow written and verbal directions and complete assigned tasks on schedule.  
  • Ability to perform assigned job duties with frequent interruptions.  Skill in maintaining confidentiality and discretion involving highly critical matters.
  • Demonstrated predictable and reliable attendance.  
  • Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes, and apply procedures using good judgment; ability to accept supervision, coaching and feedback. 
  • This position requires moving or lifting heavy objects, such as boxes of books, papers, etc. that weigh 20-25 pounds.
  • Active participation in PAO equity work, attending equity trainings and discussions, support for the PAO’s Equity and Social Justice policy and principles and work with PAO colleagues and management to identify opportunities for improvement are requisite.

*Employees with less than 2 years of service will receive .25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of Teamsters Local No. 117.
