The School seeks an individual with a commitment to exceptional pedagogy, collaboration, quality performance, and interdisciplinary inquiry to work in our dynamic voice and opera programs. We are seeking a colleague who is passionate about vocal music and instruction with the content knowledge and teaching and performing experience to make an impact on our exceptional students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience at the university level, a record of national-level performance, the ability to teach applied voice as well as adjacent coursework in diction, pedagogy, and/or song literature, and appropriate scholarly qualifications to serve as faculty chair for master’s and doctoral committees. The ideal candidate should foster teaching practices that align with the mission and strategic plans of the university, college, and school. Applicants should also be committed to inclusive pedagogies in their teaching, scholarship, and artistry.
Our dynamic faculty function as collaborative, innovative, inclusive, and adaptive members of the College of Fine Arts community, both within and beyond the home unit, serving as quality teachers, productive in creative and/or scholarly work, engaged in public service activities, and contributing to the Ball State and Muncie communities and beyond. Additionally, lifelong learning at Ball State University extends educational engagement beyond the classroom and includes learning for professional development, personal enrichment, or other goals throughout one’s lifetime. Faculty will be expected to participate in the department’s, college’s, and university’s lifelong learning opportunities when available and may be assigned teaching responsibility in this area as part of their overall responsibilities. Salary and benefit packages for this position are competitive, with salaries for this opportunity beginning at $53,000 annually. |
Minimum Qualifications | A master’s degree in vocal performance or pedagogy. Experience teaching at the university level. Professional solo performance experience at the regional level. |
Authorization to work in the US | Employer will consider sponsorship. |
Preferred Qualifications | A doctoral degree in vocal performance or pedagogy (a master’s degree with significant performance and teaching experience sufficient to teach at the doctoral level will also be accepted). Tenor, baritone, or bass preferred. Two years of professional teaching experience at the university level beyond graduate assistantship. Professional solo performance experience at the national or international level and/or other significant scholarship in the field appropriate to serve as the faculty chair for master’s and doctoral level students with full graduate faculty status. Ability to teach applied voice and additional coursework in diction, pedagogy, song literature, and/or related subjects. |
