Public Lands Advocate - Campaigns Manager

Conservation Colorado is seeking a Public Lands Advocate - Campaigns Manager, based in Denver, who is responsible for developing and implementing advocacy campaign plans in a variety of decision-making venues including the state legislature and state regulatory boards to win policy victories that protect public lands. Key components of this work include developing and executing comprehensive campaign plans, high-level strategy development, leading and supporting the development of policies with partners that achieve our goals including the mitigation of impacts on disproportionately impacted communities and building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders and key leaders/decision makers to create campaigns that are stronger than the sum of our individual parts and result in policy victories.

What You'll Do

Through effective policy, coalition and campaign development and management, you will be responsible for advocating for winning policies to achieve Conservation Colorado's goals to protect public lands. This position reports to the Government Affairs Director, and while the role can evolve over time, the primary responsibilities are:

Campaigns and policy

• Work with staff & partners to develop & implement comprehensive campaign plans to meet Conservation Colorado's goals to protect public lands.
• Ensure that our equity principles are embedded within all public lands campaigns.
• Provide issue area expertise and stay informed about public lands policy.

Legislative and Government Relations Work

• Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders such as elected officials, state & federal agencies, business allies, and coalition partners to achieve public lands goals.
• Effectively manage the monitoring of legislation, coordinating hearings and other efforts during the legislative session.

Elections

• Participate in the organization's direct election work with candidates and campaigns (including phone banking and canvassing) helping to ensure pro-conservation majorities in the state legislature and in key city and county governments.
• Consider how power is built through electoral participation and how this relates to policy campaign goals and identify unique opportunities as they develop.

In addition to your regular responsibilities, all staff are expected to participate in the organization's fundraising efforts, and commit to our organizational efforts around equity & inclusivity.

Qualifications

To be successful in this job, you will be a campaigner at heart who can apply a keen understanding of power building and political strategy to make policy victories a reality and can do that in an ever changing environment that requires flexibility & grace under pressure. More specifically, you will have:

• Experience writing and implementing campaign plans that include sophisticated political strategic and balance long term goals with short term priorities.
• Shares our commitment to increasing racial diversity in our movement and organization. Possess a willingness to do the personal and organizational work around diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
• Have or are interested in developing expertise in public lands policy and creating environmental change via a variety of policy levers.
• Capacity to build relationships that lead to respect and trust, motivate people to get the work done, and navigate difficult conversations in a meaningful & respectful manner.
• Proven experience working on teams or in coalitions that exhibit a rich mix of diversity in terms of race and socio-economic background.
• Minimum of three years experience community organizing, developing and implementing advocacy or issue campaign plans, or electoral experience.

Spanish/English bilingual is a skill we value, but is not a requirement. The positions require a willingness to work some evening and weekend hours as needed.
