Summary: 

Supports all radiation physics activities under the supervision of a Chief Radiation Physicist. Participates in all clinical physics activities, including special procedures, performance of Quality Assurance (QA) activities on equipment/treatment units, calibration/maintenance of patient Dosimetry systems, assisting the Radiation Safety Officer with executing radiation protection measures, processing/maintaining acquired radiological data, and assisting with research/development project work. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

 

 

Responsibilities:


1. Participates in clinical physics activities,

2. Performs established Quality Assurance (QA) procedures on equipment/treatment units for the Radiation Therapy program.

3. Calibrates/maintains patient Dosimetry systems, including Thermoluminescent Dosimeters (TLDs) and Diodes; maintains accurate and complete records of these activities.

4. Assists the Radiation Safety Officer with executing radiation protection measures.

5. Processes/maintains acquired radiological data, including those resulting from radiation beam characterization measurements.

6. Maintains current knowledge of new/preferred Radiation Physicist procedures, equipment, and methods; participates in their evaluation, testing, and implementation as needed.

7. Assists with research and development project work as required.

8. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in continuing education courses, professional organizations, seminars/workshops, reading current literature, and maintaining professional contacts in the community.

9. Incorporates principles of teamwork in the resolution, completion, and follow-up of responsibilities

 

 

Qualifications:

Required:
Master of Science degree in Physics, Engineering, or other related discipline from a recognized university.
3 years of documented clinical training in the field of therapeutic radiological physics.
Experience with high-dose rate Brachytherapy procedures.
Ability to work independently in a clinical setting.

Preferred:
PhD in Physics, Medical Physics, or other related discipline.
Current Medical Physics certification with a Therapeutic Medical Physics specialization from the American Board of Radiology (ABR), OR a similar certification from an accrediting organization.
3 years of experience in clinical radiation physics.
Experience using Stereotactic Radiotherapy procedures.

Physical Requirements:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
May need to exert up to fifteen (15) pounds of force.
