R&D Manager

Center Rock Inc. manufactures and distributes a complete line of air-drilling tools, for the Oil-and-Gas, Construction, Mining, and Foundation industries. We are seeking an experienced R&D Manager at our Berlin, PA facility.

Position objectives:

Lead new product development and sustaining engineering vision and activity for Center Rock. Balance creativity with practical solutions to rapidly solve problems commonly encountered with percussive rock drilling applications. The position involves leading and coaching a small team of engineers, designers and technicians. However, while being the team leader, mentor and coach, the R&D Manager is also expected to be hands on and capable of doing the following on a day-to-day basis. Design and drafting work using Solid-works. Process engineering changes and releases of new products. Simulation of mechanical systems using finite element analysis as well as computational fluid dynamics. Assisting with and/or supervising field tests. Interacting and communicating with internal as well as external customers. Stay in tune with competitive IP as well as managing Center Rock's IP portfolio. Work with all MS applications but especially Excel.

Desired qualifications:

The R&D manager must hold a BS ME in Mechanical Engineering. A graduate degree is desirable but not required. Familiarity with intellectual property management and patent processes is a plus. The position also requires knowledge of ferrous metallurgy, alloy selection, heat treatment and processing. It is also desirable to have experience with hard metals such as tungsten carbide and wear resistant coatings.
