The Water and Land Resources Division of the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks is looking for an Engineer III.
The Engineer III position is in the River and Floodplain Management Section. The position will perform engineering design and technical analyses for river and floodplain management projects and programs. Job duties will include participating in field investigations and assessments of river conditions and flood facilities; collaborating with multi-disciplinary project teams for capital projects, leading development of project design and implementation for flood damage repair projects and river capital projects; staffing flood warning, emergency and disaster response activities; and evaluating flood damages to river facilities as part of post-flood documentation.
The position will be assigned to Green River Basin Team and there will be opportunities for training and professional development. There also will be opportunities to work across the County supporting the overall River and Floodplain Management Section. The River and Floodplain Management Section is dedicated to upholding the goals and vision in the King County Equity and Social Justice Strategic Plan in our work, workplace, and in community outreach and education.

Duration: This is a Term-Limited Temporary position (TLT) or Special Duty Assignment (SDA) that is currently approved until June 2025.
Who is Eligible: This position is open to all King County employees and the general public. If the successful applicant is a King County Career Service employee, this position will be offered as a Special Duty Assignment (SDA). Employees must have their current supervisor’s approval to accept an SDA.

Telecommuting Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly by teleworking, complemented with onsite work and meetings as informed by business needs. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer. Work Schedule: This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week.
