Summary

The Disbursements position interacts with diverse members of the public, the bar, court, and other government agencies in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is expected to provide excellent customer service and possess detailed accounting skills to deliver an accurate final work product. This position is responsible for processing a large volume of disbursements with a very high degree of accuracy.  This position requires the ability to work well independently and to understand when issues need to be escalated to supervisory level attention.

WORK SCHEDULE:  This position works a 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday, and is overtime eligible.

Job Duties

Main responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

 

  • Process large volume of legal documents pursuant to R.C.W’s, court rules and department procedures.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret court orders and other legal documents for financial requirements to issue disbursement checks from the Court’s registry. 
  • Process cash adjustments to correct disbursement requests.
  • Identify overpayments and disburse to appropriate parties.
  • Research claims for unclaimed property and provide documented evidence of ownership.
  • Assist with account reconciliations for the annual unclaimed property report to WA Department of Revenue.
  • Enter data accurately to record payments.
  • Assist customers with all disbursements related questions.
  • Create witness log sheets in Excel to set up payment disbursements
  • Perform other Clerk's functions as ordered by the   court or department management       

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Applicant’s experience must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the work. 

  • Ability to analyze and extract information from legal documents; ability to read and apply pertinent laws.
  • Knowledge of accounting procedures and mathematics.
  • Strong ability for attention to details.
  • Experience providing customer service with a diverse clientele.
  • Skill in utilizing Microsoft Windows including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to deal effectively with difficult customers.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks with extreme accuracy.
  • Must be able to maintain regular and punctual attendance, with some overtime requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work with confidential information and act with tact, discretion and diplomacy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to apply rules, policies, and/or laws to daily work

 

DESIRABLE SKILLS: Knowledge of legal documents and court rules and/or procedures; experience in a judicial environment.
