Typical Schedule: This is a full-time position with normal workdays Monday through Friday. Extended hours and a flexible schedule may be necessary to meet peak periods, deadlines, and project requirements of the college, including occasional weekends.
Purpose: Each year, the Notre Dame Office of Undergraduate Admissions invites select students from its applicant pool to enroll at Holy Cross College for their first year, with a guaranteed transfer to Notre Dame as sophomores. These students are part of the Gateway Program. Gateway Program participants take courses at Holy Cross and Notre Dame, participate in student life on both campuses, and are expected to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA
The Gateway Program Coordinator is responsible for providing wholistic support for Gateway students as 1st year students at Holy Cross College and in their transition to the University of Notre Dame. In this support role, the Gateway Program Coordinator will work as an academic advisor in the selection of courses and as a member of the Student Success team to facilitate the students’ overall experience. The coordinator will be a resource and navigator for Gateway families, also helping to cultivate and steward the College’s relationship with these families. Additionally, the coordinator will serve as the admissions counselor for prospective Gateway students in the Spring.
To effectively support students and advance the College’s supportive services, active collaboration with Student Life personnel, Admissions, faculty, and other constituents of the College community is essential for this role.
Essential Job Duties:
- Engage in activities and events at Holy Cross and with staff and faculty.
- Meet with students, individually and collectively, to assist them in navigating their unique student life experience as Holy Cross College students on their way to the University of Notre Dame.
- Meet regularly and as needed with a student to provide guidance on academic-related issues such as course planning and registration, as well as the coordination of Holy Cross coursework with Notre Dame courses and
- Work collaboratively with staff and faculty both at Holy Cross and Notre Dame in the areas of academic advising, admissions and student life.
- Work collaboratively with University of Notre Dame colleagues such as the Vice President for Undergraduate Enrollment, Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions, other Deans, the Directors of Undergraduate Studies, and the Office of the Registrar.
- Organize special events for the Gateway students, including but not limited to: Gateway Grotto Visit, Majors Night, Recognition Ceremony, Gateway Senior Mass, sessions with the Notre Dame Advising Deans, and socials.
- Plan and lead all aspects of the prospective Gateway student Visit Days in collaboration with the Holy Cross and Notre Dame Offices of Admissions.
- Oversee the Gateway Program Assistant student worker, hired from the cohort each year.
- Serve as a liaison with the Holy Cross Development team to help the cultivation of relationships with Gateway families.
- Attend OSS team meetings and assist in OSS events, activities, and presentations.
- If assigned, participate as a member of the CARE Team.
- Participate in training and professional development as needed to stay abreast of regulations and changes.
- Fulfill other duties assigned to meet the needs of the Student Success Team and the College.
Minimum Education, Skills, and Ability:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Previous Holy Cross-Notre Dame Gateway student (Notre Dame Class of 2023 and older)
- A clear skillset for building strong relationships between Holy Cross and Notre
- Excellent writing and communication
- Attention to detail and demonstrated organization skills related to programming/project management are essential.
- Ability to work under pressure, in a team atmosphere, and with a minimum of direct supervision.
- A desire to embrace and enhance the Catholic, Holy Cross mission of the college.
