Job Description

 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Sanitation Manager, Sanitation Foreperson and/or Production Shift Supervisor. Responsible for all cleaning of soiled supplies and equipment used in the production process.  All buildings (administration, production, distribution) must be maintained according to department health codes.  May perform other duties as required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains all buildings by washing walls, ceilings, overheads, floors, removing trash and disinfects equipment according to master cleaning. May operate tray / rack washers, washer extractors and dryers.
  • Visually inspect equipment and complete sanitation checklist following each wash.
  • Performs maintenance cleaning on tray washer, washer extractor and dryer.
  • Oversees storage of all cleaning supplies and disinfecting equipment and supplies as instructed.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required by the Manager or Supervisor.
  • Works to maintain and improve on the quality, legality and safety of each product and the processes used in their manufacture.
  • Visually inspect other equipment sanitor’s work and complete sanitation checklist following each wash.
  • Work directly with sanitation manager and quality control technician to correct deficiencies that may exist after inspection.
  • Set up line and equipment to company standards prior to production run.
  • Participates on company training sessions on all safety topics, work instruction, cleaning procedures, Quality standards, Company and Quality policies.
  • Follow AIB (American Institute of Baking) guidelines.
  • Understand and follow hazard analysis and critical control points, (HACCP) and good manufacturing practices (GMP)
  • Operates Sanitation Cleaning equipment such as but not limited to: Floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaner, industrial vacuums, scissor Lift, Pressure washers, steam cleaners, buffing machines and all-purpose cleaner.
  • Understanding and use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Responsible for maintaining supplies such as paper products for bathrooms and towel dispensers in all buildings.
  • Responsible for keeping assigned work area clean and tidy at all times and reporting any potential contamination and suspicious activity to a Supervisor immediately.
  • Overtime hours, including working different shift and weekends may be required based on work demand. Employee must be flexible with these hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

Must have good command of the English language, both written and verbal.

 

MATH ABILITY:

Ability to do simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Ability to write numbers legibly.  Apply basic math principles as they relate to product usage and dilution rates.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

No computer skills are required.

 

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:

No certifications or licenses are required.

 

HOUSEKEEPING / SAFETY:

Performs housekeeping and maintenance tasks to keep work stations cleaned, organized and safe. These include but are not limited to: a) wiping and washing equipment and tools, b) scraping, mopping of floors, c) trash removal.

Standing, Walking

These functions require the employee to be standing or walking 100% of the time.

 

Lifting, Carrying, Twisting, Bending and Stooping

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must frequently push; pull manual or automated pallet jacks and other equipment. With the aid of co-workers, the employee is occasionally expected to push, pull equipment and racks on wheels up to 75 to 1,500 pounds approximately 15 to 520 feet. Frequent flexing, extending and turning of the neck and head are required.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include Ability to adjust focus.

 

Handling, Fingering, Feeling

Hand and finger movement is required frequently to wash, clean, launder and store supplies.

 

Exposure to Temperature Changes

This occurs frequently when cleaning the walk in coolers or when using hot water while performing washing activities.

 

Seeing, Speaking, Hearing

This position requires an employee to have adequate communicating and observational skills due to the operation of rack washer, washer extractor and dryers. These requirements are for the safety of the employee and co-workers.  These requirements are also necessary for counting activities, collecting and distributing tools and supplies to staff and communicating with co-workers.

 

Head, Neck Movement

Frequent flexing, extending and turning the neck is required.

 

Required Experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma / GED desired or equivalent years of experience
  • Previous experience in a baking environment preferred
