Description of Work

NOTE:  An employee appointed to a position which will require the services of an employee, up to 40 hours per week, to perform seasonal work activities for a continuous period not exceeding one-hundred and twenty (120) calendar days. 


The Transit Attendant, under the general direction of the Transit Supervisor, checks and maintains full levels of fuel and fluids in MATS vehicles, performs custodial duties in offices, in garage areas, and in transit vehicles and performs grounds keeping, snow removal, general upkeep around transit facility. An employee in this class also picks up parts from vendors, runs errands necessary to support maintenance activities, collects data on buses for analysis and performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

1.  Must be a high school graduate or have successfully completed the General Education Development (GED) Test; AND

Have a minimum of two (2) years full time work experience as a custodian, grounds keeper, maintenance worker, customer service employee or closely related field.

2.  Possess a valid Michigan Driver's License

Physical Conditions / Work Location

An employee in this class must be in good physical condition such as to allow for medium to heavy work activity requiring the lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling of objects weighing fifty (50) pounds or more and walking, standing, bending, or climbing for extended periods of time.

This employee performs job duties in a variety of work locations including inside or outside of County buildings and facilities under all weather conditions.

EVALUATION CONTENT

The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment.  An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test.  Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check.  Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system.  For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications.  This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
