Signal Electrician: This is skilled work in the maintenance and repair of traffic signalized lights, street lights, pedestrian crossing apparatus, radar speed signs and all components related to the operation and maintenance of lighting systems.

Duties:
-Installs, maintains and repairs traffic signals, aerial traffic signal equipment and remote traffic count equipment
-Installs and maintains aerial traffic signal equipment
-Installs, maintains, repairs and operates all types of school flashers
-Installs, maintains, repairs and operates pedestrian crossing apparatus
-Reads blue prints and wiring charts
-Performs traffic signal controller cabinet maintenance and cleaning
-Repairs and replaces vehicle detectors & pedestrian detectors
-Installs, maintains & tests video equipment used to monitor traffic and detect vehicles
-Installs conduit above and below ground
-Performs and tests traffic signal controllers
-Installs, maintains, repairs and operates all types of school flashers and pedestrian crossing apparatus
-Test, services/repairs fiber optic and copper cable communication circuits
-Installs and maintains illuminate and non-illuminate aerial signs, video equipment and various types of electronic equipment
-Maintains, installs and repairs street lights
-Performs acceptance inspections of new traffic signal & street light installations
-Performs locates of underground cables and facilities
-Locates, marks with paint and flags, all underground conduits for street lighting, traffic signals an communications circuits
-Operates and maintains camera truck use to record videotapes for traffic studies
Storm-related Function: Will be required to participate in recovery operations in the event of declared emergencies and disastrous events.
Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or its equivalent, and two (2) years of with electronics and/or electrical devices. Classroom instruction in a related area may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License. Must be able to obtain a Class "B" CDL within six (6) months of employment (will not pass probationary period if not completed).
Preferred Qualifications: Possession of IMSA Certifications Level I & II or Journeymen Electrician and Work Zone Safety within two (2) years.
Job Based Competencies: Knowledge of electrical equipment and wiring theories' and/or electronic maintenance practices. Must have the capability to read wiring and blueprint documents.
Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds. A handling device such as dolly/cart or ability to work with another person to move heavy items is available. This position works frequently in outdoor weather conditions and in high/precarious places. There are regularly fumes and/or airborne particles. There is occasional work with dangerous equipment with risk of electrical shock. Protective equipment is frequently worn.
