The position will be responsible for the design and synthesis of potential drug candidate molecules directed towards the discovery of medicines to treat neuropsychiatric diseases. Maintain a close interaction with the computer assisted design group, biologists, and pharmaceutical development scientists. Contribute to defining elements of regional, functional or new project strategies for Research & Development; create and manage complex research plans in the delivery of business results; analyze complex issues and improve, change, or adapt existing methods and techniques; and develop research solutions that require extensive analysis and detailed investigations. Supervision of research associates and CRO resources will also be required. Qualified applicants will possess a PhD degree in Organic Chemistry or a related field, and 4 years of post-doctoral experience in medicinal chemistry. A qualified applicant will possess 4 years of experience with Varian and/or Bruker NMR spectroscopy, including proton, carbon, fluorine, DEPT, COSY, 2D NOESY, 1D NOE, APT, HSQC, and HMBC. Must possess 4 years of experience with variable temperature NMR experiments; 4 years of experience with LCMS, IR, and HPLC; and 4 years of experience with polarimetery. Must possess 4 years of experience with transition metal catalysis, enantioselective synthesis, and with methodology development and multistep synthesis. Must possess 4 years of experience performing milligram scale to multigram scale synthesis; 4 years of experience in the synthesis of small molecules and the optimization of their properties to access the central nervous system; 4 years of experience working on diverse target classes that include kinases, GPCRs and ion channels; and 4 years of experience in programs from the HTL to NME declaration.
