Summary

The Department of Natural Resources and Parks - Wastewater Treatment Division is recruiting for a Plant Mechanical Engineer IV to join the Engineering group. This position will serve as the technical liaison and project coordinator with an emphasis on plant mechanical engineering support of the offsite pump stations, regulator stations, combined sewage overflow stations (CSO's) and the Treatment Plants. These facilities pose unique challenges due to the variety of mechanical equipment and operational strategies commonly deployed. The successful candidate will also serve as an in-house expert on equipment / system troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis efforts.

This position requires a high level of experience and advanced engineering knowledge of mechanical equipment & systems including engineering drawing interpretation, hydraulics and fluid theory and troubleshooting methodology. Knowledge and experience in plant outage coordination strategies are also necessary.

This position will report to the West Point or South Plant Wastewater Treatment Plant or other offsite locations and work in close partnership with West Section maintenance crafts and operations teams to maintain and support WTD's operational needs. The successful candidate will also work be expected to partner with other O&M engineers, project engineers and project managers to maintain a coordinated standardized approach across projects including design-builds. The ability to work with and develop a rapport with people across various management and technical groups will be key to success in this position.

The work environment is currently onsite hybrid/telework with work schedules (40 hours per week) being flexible

Job Duties

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience in the field of engineering, design, and CAD.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering methods and principals.
  • Experience in detailed mechanical design particularly piping and fluid conveyance systems. Good working knowledge of wastewater treatment operations and processes.
  • Strong familiarity w/REVIT and AutoCAD, or similar design software used in industrial facilities or utilities projects
  • Self-starter with the ability to identify process/equipment issues and provide suitable alternatives to address.
  • Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings in conjunction with project engineers, O&M staff, and consultants. Coordinate and guide the effort to enforce county standards between facilities.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to identify and evaluate cost effective process control change. Ability to write and edit engineering specifications for mechanical system and equipment.
  • Ability to effectively work with consultants, construction management and internal teams to maintain satisfactory working relationship with staff, peers, and supervisors, and to work in a team environment at various sites.
  • Familiarity with large stand-alone projects in a regional utility including project deployment processes and phases governing design and construction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
