Job Summary:
Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Police, the Assistant Chief of Police some assigned duties will include;
Overseeing the Patrol Division of the department to include all UPO1s and UPO2/Lieutenants, Public Safety.
Process all applicants, review all necessary paperwork required for compliance with DCJS & SUNY Central Administration.
Serve as the point of contact for Human Resources and our contract security vendor for newly hired staff, and to assist in recruiting officers; prepares performance ratings for all university police personnel.
Work closely with Chief of Police to prepare and maintain agency records as required by state and federal mandates to include, annual preparation of the Clery Report, and Uniform Crime Reports.
Interface with various campus agencies to provide support, direction and assistance to include but not limited to:
Employee Labor Relations/Human Resources re: staff issues and concerns,
Patient Relations: regarding non-patient care related complaints,
Social Work: provide assistance in a variety of situations as they arise, and
Passage Point: maintain watch list interface with Lisa Gaspe re: operational concerns.
Internal Affairs Work in conjunction with the Chief of Police and 1st Deputy Chief to investigate reports of Breaches of Conduct and Civilian Complaints of Misconduct as set forth in the University Police Manual and Upstate Medical University Policy Manual.
Assist in the development and presentation of training programs on campus in conjunction with the Chief of Police.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Law enforcement Leadership and/or Criminal Justice or related, plus a minimum of 4 years of Police Supervision in a campus and hospital setting required.
Must have the following DCJS Certifications:
Basic Police Certification
Instructor Development Certification
Supervisors Certification
*In lieu of a formal degree, the department might consider employing someone who possessed an equivalent combination of education and experience.
