DESCRIPTION:

 

Under the direction of  the Superintendent, the Director will be responsible for the supervision, oversight and evaluation of all curriculum and instruction related programs and procedures in the district including curricula development and implementation, Professional Learning Communities, Academic Coaching, textbook adoption and compliance, staff development, Independent Study, English Language Learner programs, Gifted and Talented Education, Teacher Induction, Adult Education, before and after school programs, and District and Site continuous improvement activities.  The Director will support the facilitation of the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), including the collaborative development and implementation of the priorities and actions of the LCAP. The Director will also supervise and oversee appointed State and Federal programs in the district including Title I; Title II (Teacher Quality); Title III (Limited English Proficient); Career Technical Education; and other State and/or Federal programs that may be assigned.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Support programs which provide educational services to schools to facilitate teaching, learning and adjustment in the classroom.

2. Plan, organize and implement educational programs and services; review and evaluate programs and services to identify necessary modifications to improve results.

3. Develop curriculum/pupil personnel programs, services and staff development consistent with identified needs.

4. With and through staff, develop and implement a district-wide testing and evaluation program consistent with State mandates.

5. With and through staff, develop and implement District-wide curriculum and instructional programs which are articulated TK-12.

6. Facilitate grade and/or subject level meetings among the schools.

7. Encourage cooperation and collaboration among the Sites concerning instructional matters.

8. Plan and implement a program to ensure college and career readiness by all students who graduate.

9. Develop a district-wide program for staff development which will result in improved performance and productivity.

10. Using data, assist in ensuring the systematic alignment of assessment tools with standards-based curriculum and instruction, vertical and horizontal instructional continuity and articulation across schools.

11. Promote an efficient system for providing instructional resources.

12. Directly supervise and evaluate Curriculum and Instruction staff and the programs and services for which they are responsible.

13. Assist the Superintendent and staff in the development of policies related to curriculum, instruction and student services.

14. Assist in negotiations when requested.

15. The Director may act as the Superintendent’s delegate when directed.

16. The Director will report to the Superintendent.

17. In addition to the aforementioned, the Director shall endeavor to maintain and improve professional competence by a variety of means, including, without implied limitation, subscription to and reading of appropriate periodicals, and joining and participating in appropriate professional associations and their activities.

18. Obtain and maintain all licenses, credentials, certificates, permits and approvals of whatever nature that are legally required to fulfill the Director’s obligations as a Director of the District.

19. Performs such other related duties that become apparent with the development of the position and/or assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

1. Master’s degree from and accredited college or university desirable. Doctorate is desirable.

2. Possession of or eligibility to obtain a valid California teaching or services credential and a valid California Administrative Services credential. Applicants who are applying for a valid credential or have not utilized their credential within the last 39 months of employment in a school district must show verification of passage of CBEST.

3. A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching or services experience; at least three (3) years of administrative experience, which would demonstrate exposure to and utilization of required skills, knowledge and abilities in performing job related duties and responsibilities.

4. Teaching and/ or administrative/ supervisory/ curriculum and instruction/ instructional coaching experience desirable.

 

In addition to having the required education and experience, the candidate should have:

1. Knowledge of current principles, practices, and techniques of effective administration.

2. Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

3. Knowledge of federal and state categorical programs, funding, and accountability.

4. Knowledge of laws and regulation relating to special education/ pupil personnel.

5. Demonstrated leadership skills in motivating, facilitating, convincing, and/ or influencing others to successfully attain end results.

6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with staff, and the public.

7. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

8. Ability and skill to make effective presentations to a wide variety of groups and individuals.

9. Ability to plan, direct, and administer a comprehensive program.

 

DEMONSTRATED PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

1. Visual capability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines.

2. Able to conduct verbal conversation.

3. Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels).

4. Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk.

5. Able to sit for sustained periods of time.

6. Able to climb slopes, stairs, steps and ladders.

7. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

8. Able to carry up to 40 pounds.

9. Able to operate office machines and equipment in a safe and effective manner.

10. Able to operate a motor vehicle safely and effectively, and maintain a valid driver’s license.
