UWMC has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time (60%), day shift, CARDIAC MONITOR TECHNICIAN. Under general supervision, the Cardiac Monitoring Technician assists the nursing staff through the surveillance of monitors and the performance of clerical duties. Duties include: analysis/documentation of cardiac rhythms, constant surveillance and hourly documentation of rhythms, and efficient and respectful communication with team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain an environment that respects the socio-economic, ethno cultural, and lifestyle diversity of patients and staff
  • Completely perform indirect patient care tasks according to level of training and in accordance with unit standards. (Ex: Parking validation, looking patients up in the directory, entering data on the patient call system, and phone assignments)
  • Support the process for accurate billing by ensuring the PSS staff is notified of patients who are admitted or discontinued from telemetry monitoring
  • Trouble shoot technical/equipment problems and report them to charge nurse, RN3, or Biomedical Equipment Technician
  • Accurately analyze each rhythm strop for heart rate, measure designated intervals (PR, QRS, QT), and report abnormalities to nursing staff
  • Maintain monitoring equipment by replacing recording paper, keeping inventory of transmitters, and reporting any damage found on the transmitter or their lead wires
  • Participate in orientation of new staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

    REQUIREMENTS:
    High school diploma or GED and completion of a course in cardiac dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation, or one year experience in monitor surveillance in a coronary care/telemetry unit.
