Our client that is located near Los Angeles, California, is seeking an experienced Cannabis Controller to join their team. The Controller will report directly to the CFO and serve an important financial management role with the organization and assist with building out the accounting team.

This is a flexible opportunity that will become HYBRID after the first three months, 2-3 days in the office per week.

 Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains an internal control system to guarantee that funds are properly secured and used, as well as aiding internal and external auditors.
  • Oversees an organization’s accounting and financial reporting procedures, such as payables, receivables, and general ledger entries.
  • Manage all budgets.
  • Support banking/financial institution activities
  • Establishes policies and procedures to ensure financial reporting integrity and continually develop, improve, and document accounting policies and procedures, including cash policies
  • Conducts risk assessments with the help of senior managers.
  • Ensures that month-end and year-end close processes are completed on time and accurately.
  • Creates financial statements in a timely manner.
  • Support full cycle general ledger monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process
  • Work with operations and inventory to manage day-to-day, accounts payable and accounts receivables activities to ensure seamless operations that are in compliance with internal controls, external audits, and US GAAP
  • Support full-cycle payroll, including reconciliations
  • Support intercompany balance schedules and reconcile these accounts regularly
  • Bank account reconciliations
  • Provides financial training to staff when necessary.
  • Gives the executives the financial data they need to make forecasts.
  • Creates, maintains, and monitors a system of checks and controls that aids in the prevention of financial fraud in a business.
  • Prepare complex journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Prepare supporting documentation for the annual audit
  • Assist in maintaining all corporate records and accounts
  • Prepare periodic annual Property, Sales Use, Cultivation, and Other tax calculations and submissions and ensure taxes are paid correctly and on time
  • Facilitate and maintain cross-departmental relationships (operations, FP&A, management, inventory)
  • Work on ad-hoc accounting, financial analysis, and weekly cash flow reports as well as finance projects as needed
  • Assist in the development of Public Reporting requirements (10Q/10K)

Job Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or similar
  • CPA is preferred
  • 8-10+ years of related work experience in a similar capacity is required.
  • Advance computer skills in Excel, QuickBooks, different data sources such as Gusto, Nabis, Comploy, and Quickbooks
  • Previous cannabis accounting experience is a REQUIRED
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, project management and communications skills
  • Knowledge of GAAP and 280E is REQUIRED
  • Self-starter who can excel in a fast-paced environment with excellent written and verbal communication skills, friendly personality and team building leadership skills required

Compensation: $130,000-$145,000 Base Salary plus Health Benefits
