Job Description
Coppin State University, a fully accredited institution, and a member of the University System of Maryland, is accepting applications to fill an Associate Professor tenure-track position of English with a background in Journalism, in the Department of Humanities within the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE). Coppin is an urban residential Historically Black College and University (HBCU) serving nearly 3,000 students enrolled in day, evening, weekend, and online courses. The candidate would teach English Composition I and II, Creative Writing, Poetry, or fiction, Communication Studies, Digital Media Creation, Editing and Journalism courses. The candidate should have some records of published works.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teaching English Composition I and II, Creative Writing, Poetry or Fiction, Communication Studies, Digital media creation Editing, and Journalism courses.
  • Holding conferences with students and keeping office hours.
  • Involved with student advisement.
  • Engage in Departmental and University activities.
  • Engage in recruiting for English majors.
Required Qualifications
EDUCATION:
  • Doctorate degree required, significant graduate course work or terminal degree in Humanities-related discipline.

EXPERIENCE:
  • At least three (3) years of teaching experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to use different teaching modalities, face to face and Online teaching.
  • Demonstrate evidence of working with diverse populations of students in urban environments.
  • Work with students one-on-one to give additional help.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on university-wide committees.
  • Motivate and engage students in class.
