General Description
Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial and manual duties that involve heavy lifting, and use of heavy power equipment. Duties are related to the general appearance and cleanliness of both the interior and immediate exterior of the college buildings and facilities. The primary and most important overall responsibility of all is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the college community.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Sweeps and/or vacuums floors, carpets, hallways and stairwells. Mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floor surfaces using heavy-duty powered equipment. Performs necessary service and preventive maintenance such as cleaning and oiling equipment, to prevent breakdown and insure effective and efficient operation.

• Vacuum cleans carpets, drapes, and walls using chemicals and cleaning solutions as required.

• Washes, cleans, disinfects, deodorizes and maintains restrooms in a clean, orderly and sanitary condition. Replaces toilet tissue, towels, soap, and deodorizer as required.

• Dusts, waxes and polishes office furniture, cleans shelves, empties trash receptacles.

• Moves and rearranges furniture and/or fixtures and assists in the movement of office equipment, and in the loading and off loading of office equipment and supplies.

• Picks up litter from around entrances to assigned area, and parking lots.

• Assists in exterior landscaping work and interior plant management.

• Scrapes and shovels snow from entrance ways and steps.

• Maintains stock of rest room and janitorial supplies.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
High School graduate or equivalent.
Experience
One (1) year creditable work experience in the custodial service field
Competencies and Skills Required
• Must possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License.

• Ability to operate large floor cleaning machine and equipment.

• Required to submit to a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• Works inside and outside and may be exposed to extreme temperatures.

• Exposed to dirt and disagreeable odors, and possible skin irritations from cleaning chemicals and solutions.

• Care is required when working from ladders or lifting heavy equipment to prevent injury.

• Moves heavy equipment, sets up and works from ladders.

• Frequently lifts up to 40 pounds and may occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Salary $17.00 per hour

Terms of Employment
Part time. Hours not to exceed 25 per week. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
