If so, we might have the perfect job for you. The Sky-Hi News is seeking its next editor to lead its newsroom. If you have experience in developing and leading a community newsroom, as well as strong leadership, organization and team-building skills, this may be a great opportunity to further your career while living in one of the most beautiful communities in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The ideal candidate will have an established record of innovation, results attainment, and news staff development. Experience in a ski-oriented resort community will set you apart from other candidates. The Sky-Hi News, part of Swift Communications mountain resort group with publications in Colorado, Nevada, California and Utah, publishes a newspaper on Wednesdays and Fridays, with an average free distribution of 4,600 papers during the low season and 6,000 during peak season. The Sky-Hi News serves the towns of Winter Park, Fraser, Tabernash, Granby, Grand Lake, Hot Sulphur Springs and Kremmling. Our coverage area includes the world-class ski area of Winter Park Resort, the nationally renowned mountain biking mecca at Granby Ranch and the western gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park at Grand Lake.

Compensation: $50,000-$60,000 annually

Duties/Responsibilities:

Key Leadership Responsibilities: * Leads planning and oversees execution of a multi-platform content strategy that drives audience engagement; * Designs a newsroom structure that inspires high performance; * Encourages creative and innovative approaches to both routine work and new challenges; * Thrives on being a life-long student who consistently seeks to learn and grow, both personally and professionally; * Facilitates strong community connections through a relevant editorial voice and personal interaction; * Demonstrates confidence in day-to-day actions and in times of crises by exemplifying a calm, cool and collected leader from whom the team takes cues; * Capable of moving quickly and being agile in an ever-changing digital environment; * Upholds the highest standards of journalistic integrity and credibility; * Serves as a knowledgeable resource with regard to state and local news issues, investigative journalism, public service, government issues and First Amendment issues; * Willingly leads from a place of intuition in uncharted waters by demonstrating trust in one¹s self to instinctively make good decisions; * Manages for results in a metrics-driven environment.

Specific duties include: * Overseeing, managing and leading a team of reporters, community contributors and freelancers * Hiring, directing and evaluating all newsroom employees * Developing full understanding of editorial procedure, goals and operations * Developing full understanding of all production procedures for all papers * Developing full understanding of all press and distribution functions * Being a primary community contact for the paper through civic groups, social functions, etc. * Being available to answer questions and helping solve problems for all employees * Working under direction of Publisher * Participating in strategic planning processes * Keeping newsroom operating within budget

Qualifications: Applicants should possess: * Advanced journalism training * Management experience * Great people and communication skills * Crisis management and problem-solving techniques * Team development, organizational and planning skills * Must be available some nights and weekends * Bachelor¹s degree or equivalent experience is required * Five years of experience in journalism is preferred
