This is a role within West Michigan Spectrum, where an individual would be traveling to multiple different sites to manage the projects going on within the in-house construction team. This individual would supervise a total of 25+ direct reports. One unique thing about this role and this team is the individual would be given a fleet vehicle for work. Being able to drive it to the different locations to manage each project. Future state this role could have a big impact on SHBH with the new system integration as well as being able to take this to a system wide approach and team.

Job Summary

Supervises and coordinates the activities of technical and support employees who perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of Spectrum Health's equipment, buildings, and related structures, fixtures, and utilities. Reviews job orders to determine work priorities. Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation of equipment. Coordinates renovation and refresh projects. Maintains frequent project updates and reporting.

Essential Functions - Plans, assigns, supervises and evaluates the work of technical and support employees performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled craft related work, such as: grounds, carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration.

  • Reviews job orders to determine work priorities. Monitors and evaluates operations to ensure that workflow and organization maximize resources and minimize delays.
  • Inspects work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, and standards and to determine the need for additional work or repairs.
  • Reviews production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities.
  • Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
  • Coordinates renovation and equipment replacement projects. This includes providing for project estimates, capital budgeting, directing contractors and making recommendations on facility requirements.
  • Supervises the activities of technical and support employees who are engaged in performing a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of Spectrum Health’s equipment, buildings, and related structures, fixtures, and utilities. Provides direction and support to subordinate staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning and assigning work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Maintains and updates policy / procedure manuals and training manuals as required. Prepares, maintains, and submits reports as required. Ensures that required documentation for activities within areas of responsibility is performed in an accurate and timely manner. Maintains files and records.
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of technical and support employees who perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of Spectrum Health’s buildings, and related structures, fixtures, and utilities. Review job orders to determine work priorities. Maintains an overall schedule of facilities projects, schedule’s work in accordance with all stakeholders. Supervise special projects. Coordinates renovation and refresh projects. Maintain frequent project updates and reporting.
  • Manage the overall and individual project schedules, maintain accurate financial records for each project, partner with facilities project managers for all aspects of the project from ideation to close out, consistent project updates and reporting, supervise departmental metrics and oversee and act as the main source of expertise for all construction related issues that may arise.

Qualifications – Required

  • Associate degree or equivalent or equivalent, or technical degree or equivalent education, training, and experience -Required
  • 5 years of experience typically gained through skills/knowledge/abilitiesSkills, knowledge, abilities typically gained through 5+ years of related experience Required
  • 5 years of experience typically gained through skills/knowledge/abilities skilled maintenance Required
  • Experience supervising building and facilities functions in an organization of comparable size and complexity to Spectrum Health. Required

Qualifications – Preferred

  • Construction project management, construction project supervision or oversight -
  • 5 years of construction project management, 5 years of construction project supervision or oversight.
