Title: Chapter 74 Vocational Supervisor 

Springfield Public Schools is seeking highly-qualified, diverse applicants for the position of Chapter 74 Vocational Supervisor. This position will oversee several aspects of our Vocational Programs including administration of a new collaboration between Putnam Vocational Academy and the High School of Science & Technology that allows for 11th grade students at High School of Science & Technology to participate in vocational training at Putnam Vocational Academy after normal school hours.

 

DUTIES:

The Chapter 74 Vocational Supervisor will report directly to the Vocational Director and assist the buildings principals in the duties noted under the following categories;

  1. Administration 
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Identifies, implements, and supports content-based instruction based on the MA Curriculum Frameworks for Chapter 74 programs.
  • Enforce and monitor Department of Education and Division of Occupational Education Regulations.
  • Plan and implement future vocational curriculum and programs for compliance with DOE Vocational Frameworks.
  • Practices relevant fiscal management policies and procedures.
  • Uses technology appropriately: as an organizational tool for record keeping and scheduling; as a communication tool; data collection and accountability; and educational research.
  • Provides support and leadership in implementing standards-based vocational classrooms and the use of the Principles of Learning.
  • Understands plant facilities and equipment management.
  • Safety procedure resource for all Chapter 74 programs.
  • Support teachers and students with training in OSHA protocol, SDS protocol, the Injury and Illness prevention program, school health and safety regulations and emergency protocol.
  • Coordinates, supports, and monitors live vocational projects, in the school setting.
  • Ensures that all projects are safe, progressive, and productive for all student’s educational necessities.
  • Advise the Vocational Director as to the appropriate uses of facilities, equipment, technology, and supplies.
  • Supports Vocational Director with financial requirements associated with vocational projects, including required purchases and potential profits. Also, works closely with the school's Business Manager to ensure that all vocational programs comply with State and Federal laws pertaining to all budget decision

  1. Professional Responsibilities 
  • Knowledge of career technical opportunities; knowledge of cooperative education programs
  • Is familiar with the district’s student support services.
  • Is familiar with the range of instructional programs, vocational competencies, practices, policies, and beliefs that promote the goals of the Culture of Achievement.
  • Knows multiple strategies to assess student achievement and various performance-based measurements.
  • Can enforce and monitor for compliance student conformity with school policies, school regulations, and student disciplinary code regulations
  • Can work cooperatively with the public, community agencies, and the MA DOE
  • Can work collaboratively with faculty and students, and district administrators
  • Can develop and implement projects; identify and achieve goals
  • Understands federal, state, and local laws and regulations including laws on disability, Civil Rights and responsibilities, issues of liabilities, and requirements of due process.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree preferred from an accredited college or university.
  2. Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Education as a certified Vocational Administrator
  3. A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience and or administrative experience in a vocational setting or equivalent preferred.
  4. Leadership experiences-chairman of teacher’s committees, school counselor, officer of professional or community organizations, school administration, or equivalent.
  5. Excellent organizational, management, oral, written communication, as well as interpersonal skills required.
  6. Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes after-school hours.
