Agassiz Village is an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit providing summer and year-round programs to children and teens in Poland, Maine. We are seeking a vibrant, passionate, experienced leader to be our next Executive Director. This individual will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for staff, programs, fundraising, fiscal position, expansion, community/stakeholder relationship cultivation, and mission execution while ensuring the efficient, effective operations of the organization. The Executive Director will operate primarily out of the business office in Lexington, MA, being present at the residential camp setting in Poland, ME from time to time as needed.

With 400 hundred acres of pristine Maine wilderness, a dining hall that can hold over 5oo hundred people, one of the largest log cabin structures in the world, three islands on crystal-clear Lake Thomspon, and 1.5 miles of waterfront, Agassiz Village is now in need of a veteran fundraiser, promoter, and oversee who can bring this well-kept secret to the attention of a range and amount funders, staff, alumni, and other supporters, and maximize its potential to transform the lives of its campers.

The successful candidate will be a mission-driven, self-directed, high integrity leader with a sense of humor, strong people skills, verbal and written communication skills, an impeccable work ethic, a can-do attitude, proven fundraising ability, and expertise overseeing multifaceted program(s), especially in an overnight camp setting that serves a diverse population of campers and counselors.

Minimum Requirements: 5+ years organizational management & fund-raising experience, and a bachelor's degree. Advanced degree and/or experience with physical site management a plus. Full-time year-round position. Salary commensurate with experience.

Organization Mission and Strategy

Work with the Board to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, fundraising, strategic planning, and community outreach. Review current strategic plan and guide future strategic planning to ensure that Agassiz can successfully fulfill its mission into the future. Enhance Agassiz's image by being active and visible in relevant sectors and communities, and by maintaining current/developing new relationships with partner organizations and other professionals. Lead Agassiz in a manner that supports and guides the organization's mission as defined by the Board of Directors and in a manner that embodies the highest ideals of inclusivity, service, integrity, respect, and excellence. Cultivate communications and relationships with new and existing Board members. Provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

Fiscal Management

Oversee the fiscal integrity of Camp, including submission to the Board a proposed annual budget and regular financial statements that accurately and transparently reflect the financial condition of the organization. Develop resources sufficient to ensure the financial health, improvement and longevity of the organization. Approve expenditures against the Board-approved budget, monitor and report on cash flow, revenues, and expenditures according to sound accounting practices. Ensure maximum resource utilization and maintain a positive financial position overall. Oversee the management of the organization's books including payroll oversight and account reconciliation; prepare and compile documents and data necessary for annual audits, tax filings, and other required state and federal reporting.

Development & Donor Relations

Fundraise through grant writing, corporate sponsorships, individual donor cultivation, special events, and the development of other monetary and in-kind donation programs. Research and prepare grant proposals and other funding applications. Maintain an updated grant calendar highlighting future opportunities. Manage relationships with key donors and foundation partners. Oversee the maintenance of a robust donor database and donor tracking system for both monetary and non-monetary resources. Create and implement events and opportunities, including routine and reliable fundraisers, which actively engage and energize current camper and staff participants, families, alumni, volunteers, Board members, event committees, partnering organizations, and funders.

Organization Operations

Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization. Ensure commitment to and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations across the organization. In partnership with the Camp Director, establish, review and update benchmarks for camper enrollment and staff hiring; support year-round staff members in their efforts to meet and exceed these benchmarks. Supervise the year-round management of the facility.

Personnel Management & Human Resources

Lead, coach, develop, and retain Agassiz's high-performance year-round staff team. Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse year-round and seasonal staff of top-quality people. Ensure that sound human resource practices are in place. Provide for professional development opportunities, including conducting annual reviews.

Camp & Program

Maintain a working knowledge of best practices, significant developments, and trends in the camp/youth development industry. Provide and encourage creativity and vision in the continued evolution of Agassiz's programs to serve campers and their families at the highest level. Assess program performance to ensure that Agassiz meets and exceeds expectations. Supervise the Camp Director who, in turn, maintains oversight of summer camp operations. Ensure compliance with federal, state and local licensing regulations.
