Shift:     Evening Shift 11:00 - 19:30 with rotating weekend and holidays

Exempt: No 

Summary:

A clerical position responsible for the activities of the clerical area of the Laboratory. Evaluate office operation and recommended changes to improve the laboratory service. Good communication skills are required due to the close interaction with patients, physicians, and all departments within the hospital and the laboratory.

Education:
High School diploma or equivalent education is required.  

Experience/Skills:
Good knowledge of computer and keyboard..
Familiarity with medical terminology.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

1.Orders (key punches) all outpatient tests via the physician’s order into the Laboratory Information System in an accurate and timely manner.

2.Enter necessary data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to admit, test request, comment, identify doctors and provide an audit trail of patients’ transactions.

3.Maintain appropriate logs to track patient transactions/results.

4.Maintain files, logs, doctor's orders, and pathology results for prescribed time periods.

5.Post results to patient charts, delivers them to medical records section and doctor's boxes as required/directed.

6 Answer phones, take messages, calls/faxes/mails results as required/directed

7.Charge/credit patient accounts.

8.Make or print copies of reports and distribute in accordance with directives.

9.Verify bills from reference laboratories as directed..

10. Order supplies.

11.Assist in researching Laboratory Audits.

12.Maintain and process payroll reports.

13.Maintain Illness Records and report monthly to Employee Wellness Nurse.

14.Assist in the training of new employees and make recommendations to Accessioning Supervisor for additional training needs and/or procedural changes and updates; completes orientation checklist.

15.Using the chain‑of‑command, consults Accessioning Supervisor, Coordinators, Senior Medical Technologists, Laboratory Director, or Pathologist, as necessary needs and problems of the clerical section arise.

16.Adhere to established clerical, laboratory, and hospital quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control policies and procedures.

17.Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, conferences, and professional affiliations.

18.Attend required meetings and in-services as required.

19.Maintain confidentiality.

20.Performs other duties as directed; each employee must be flexible with schedules as they may be required to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and during disasters.

21.Follows North Oaks Health System’s Compliance Programs and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
