Job Description
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) in Rolla, Missouri seeks outstanding applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor rank in artificial intelligence. Individuals with research focus on computer system paradigms that enable modern AI development are especially encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will demonstrate alignment with one or more of S&T’s many multi-disciplinary, multi-investigator research centers and programs, including the Intelligent Systems Center, the Center for Research in Energy and the Environment, the Center for Science, Technology, and Society, and the Kummer Institute. Competitive salary commensurate with the rank and qualifications of the candidate will be offered.
Applicants must provide evidence of potential for excellence in (a) establishing a strong, externally funded research program; (b) high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; (c) service to the professional community and institution; and (d) increasing the intellectual pluralism of the student body and faculty. Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering or a closely related field at the prospective time of appointment in Fall 2024. Candidates from national laboratories or industry who have a strong research record coupled with academic experience are encouraged to apply.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has a long history of excellence in research. The department’s 25 tenured and tenure-track faculty had a total of $5.9M in research expenditures in 2022 and included 5 of the top 20 researchers on campus. Research sponsors include both government sources, such as NSF, DOE, and DOD, and an extensive network of industry sponsors. Department faculty are highly regarded in their fields, including six faculty members who are among the top 2% in their fields by citation metrics. ECE faculty are also deeply committed to the teaching mission of the university, with one Curators’ Teaching Professor and five others who recently received awards for their teaching impact.
