POSITION:         Social Worker

 

MSW degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Related Masters Degree from an accredited college or university considered.  Bachelors Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university considered.

             MSW—1 year related experience, other related masters degree—2 years related experience, Bachelors—2 yrs. Related experience

 

Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with clients, families, staff and community contacts with a diversity of backgrounds and life situations.  Social workers must demonstrate related experience and skills necessary to effectively meet the ongoing needs of children and family.  Social Workers must possess an understanding of and sensitivity to serving culturally diverse and special needs population.  Experience in the principles and practices of the inter-disciplinary team approach is preferred.  Excellent verbal and written communication, problem solving and organizational skills required.  Must have a valid driver’s license and meet minimum insurability requirements during employment.  Some working knowledge of computers required. 

 

Work is typically performed at program site including travel to various sites as related to the position. Must be able to satisfactorily complete all ongoing training requirements of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and CPR/First Aid/AED. 

 

JOB PURPOSE: The social worker is responsible for providing counseling to children and families within a variety of child welfare settings such as foster care, residential treatment, group homes, preventive services and adoption.  Social workers are to address the presenting needs and challenges of the children and families served which are identified through the treatment planning process.  Social workers plan discharges and arrange for appropriate transitions.   The Social Worker will act as the facilitator for treatment team meetings/case conferences and provide clinical consultation to team members as appropriate.

Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with the children and their families that are responsive to their needs and are in accordance with the established treatment plan/comprehensive assessment.  Promote the growth of the parent-child relationship as indicated by that plan, as well as the agency’s philosophy of family centered practice

Provide appropriate comprehensive case work interventions including case planning. Establish and maintain regular contact with children and families. Provide individual, family, group counseling, and crisis intervention. Ensure that agency standards of practice as well as State, Federal, and Accreditation standards are fully met. Exceed those standards whenever possible.

Continually evaluate the strengths and needs of children and families to provide appropriate intervention planning.    Promote and guide the development of increased adaptive coping skills, socialization skills, parenting skills, independent living skills etc. through active involvement in treatment planning process and ongoing review.

Use family centered practice approaches in service delivery and case planning in treatment, permanency planning and discharge. Initiate, develop and implement valid, innovative best practices consistent with progressive trends, directions and research. Continuously monitor, evaluate and enhance all clinical programming.

Complete required reports and documentation in a timely manner meeting all standards of content and professional presentation.  Ensure timely, accurate recording of all components of clients records, including; progress notes, treatment planning, conferences, case specific materials, and  Case Records.

Ensure the standards of a high performing team member are role modeled on a daily basis.  Maintain good relationships through collaboration and advocacy on client’s behalf with DSS, community agencies, schools, program staff and other service providers. Participate consistently in teamwork inter and intra departmentally.  Involvement in cross program projects as appropriate.  Chair treatment team meetings as indicated.
