Upper School Computer Science Teacher

Pace Academy is an independent college preparatory school in Atlanta, Ga., with an enrollment of 1,115 students in Pre-First through 12th grade. Pace Academy provides a rigorous academic curriculum to prepare students for success at a variety of prestigious colleges and universities. For the 2022-2023 academic year, Pace is looking for an Upper School Computer Science Teacher to teach five (5) sections to students in grades nine through 12. Courses may include: AP Computer Science Principles, Intro to Programming, Programming II, Intro to Robotics, and Robotics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares course objectives and outlines for courses of study in conjunction with other Upper School faculty, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops
  • Effectively incorporates principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching and classroom culture
  • Attends training, professional development and education in antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Communicates effectively with parents in a timely manner
  • Leads parent-teacher conferences
  • Attends parent gatherings and assists with school-sponsored trips
  • Participates in the co-curricular activities of the school community (such as coaching, sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations,)
  • Other duties may be assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred. One or both must be in computer science
  • Two to five years of teaching experience is ideal; high-school experience preferred
  • Experience teaching AP classes is helpful
  • Strong sense of humor, flexibility and desire to work with high-school students is required
  • Demonstrated successful coaching experience desired
  • Must be available for after-school student help
  • Attendance at evening and weekend functions is occasionally required
  • Belief in the critical importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in the life of a school so as to foster a sense of belonging
  • Proficient use of technology is necessary
  • Strong familiarity with at least 2 programming languages (Java, Python, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, or ROBOTC)
  • Must be able to work on campus, for in-person learning
  • If not fully vaccinated against COVID-19, weekly testing is required
  • Face masks required
