Job Summary

The VP, Sales will be responsible for achieving profitable growth through statewide commercial market sales strategies. This includes pursuing and obtaining new business relationships and distribution channel management and strategies. The VP, Sales will oversee the statewide sales teams with appropriate support functions and will be involved in the development of marketing and new market opportunities. Strategic focus and execution of annual and 5-year statewide, regional targets and market segments (small, mid/large, key commercial markets, MAPD commercial, fully-insured and self-insured and targeted product portfolio). In addition this position will be involved in the management of small, mid/large key commercial market P &L, development of pricing strategies for retention groups, and products and services development.

This is a statewide position and requires a physical presence in all locations. The VP of Sales must be in Michigan and can select one of our 5 locations as their "primary" site. In addition, the position is based on relationship building and community presence, therefore the VP of Sales is expected to have a very visible presence in the community at events that may occur during the day, after work or on the weekends.

DIRECTION EXERCISED:

Directs the work of the sales department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to effectively interviewing, hiring, coaching, developing and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and counseling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. This position will also participate in membership forecasting and internal commission program development.

Essential Functions
  • Develop a strategic sales plan to increase sales for the organization, producing top-line growth and bottom-line results. Define organizational sales priorities and implement long-term plans.
  • Define insightful market segmentations and channel distribution strategies that lead to competitive advantage in Priority Health’s products and markets.
  • Prepare market projections, regular progress, enrollment, budget, and marketplace condition reports for SVP Employer Solutions.
  • Work with sales and marketing leaders to create strategic annual and 5 year growth plans, sales process and expected services levels, broker management and fully utilizing CRM. Recruit, select and retain highly qualified professionals. Provide the leadership necessary to maintain a motivated, productive and competent team through open communication and delegation of responsibilities and authority.
  • Lead and direct the day-to-day sales activities for the organization. This includes providing leadership and direction to the sales teams to ensure the organization’s strategic plan is translated into tactical goals and objectives to meet or exceed revenue and growth objectives.
  • Research, analyze and monitor financial and demographic factors to capitalize on market opportunities and minimize competitive activity. Strong collaboration with VP Underwriting and VP Product to ensure competitive strategies for profitable growth and planning for multi-year target are achieved.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with an optimal broker network in order to maximize profitable sales opportunities for Priority Health’s service area. Develop agent relationship strategies to best enhance Priority Health’s position in the market.
  • Ensure participation and partnership in all activities concerning RFP response, finalist presentation and transition to implementation. Analyze results, drive change and ensure continuous process improvement in the quoting process to improve close ratios in partnership with the VP Employer Solutions Operations.

  • Preferred Master's Degree MBA
  • 10 years of relevant experience leadership experience Required
