Position Summary: To perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks, including but not limited to, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing. To provide maintenance/custodial support for campus as assigned.
Essential Functions:
70% Perform general building maintenance and repair involving carpentry, painting, plumbing, flooring, tile, electrical and cubical installation and break down. The maintenance worker supports the staff and faculty in the college by providing a clean, safe, and functional environment in which to work and learn.
10% Move furniture and other equipment such as portable platforms, man-lift, pianos, and incubators. Assist Shipping/Receiving to deliver equipment and supplies to other campuses with 16’ or 26’ box truck. Assist Grounds in doing snow removal and applying ice melt chemical to sidewalks when needed. Assist EH&S Manager in removing bio-hazard waste and storing for proper disposal. Assist EH&S Manager in all campus emergency drills.
10% Set-up tables and PSCC display on and off campus for special functions.
10% Performs various custodial tasks.

Job Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D. Minimum of three years’ experience in building maintenance that can be on the job experience to include training in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and/or other building trades, with 5 years preferred.
Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.
Skills & Abilities:
Complexity & Creativity: Carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, carpet laying, building office cubes, and operate computer and sign machine. You have to be creative to get most jobs done. Analyze jobs and prioritize work according to policies, procedures, standards, and precedents. Routine building maintenance tasks tend to be mechanical in nature, thus they carry a certain amount of complexity. The ability to problem-solve and recognize the affect that one component may have on another when approaching a solution is important.
Magnitude of Impact: The decisions that the employee makes can cause the college to open or close, as well as to cause the community to think of PSCC in a negative or positive manner. The maintenance worker supports the students, staff and faculty in the college by providing a clean, safe, and functional environment to work and learn.
Responsibility for Accuracy: Errors could occur in understanding instructions or scheduling work. Work orders are assigned and work is routinely supervised. Errors tend to be caught by campus deans and supervisors. The quantity and quality of the work is verified by meeting the deadlines and doing the job accurately to prevent lost productivity. Errors in judgment would result in more work for the team. Bad judgment regarding safe working practices could result in injury to employee or other staff.
Financial Impact: Maintenance Workers are responsible for making repairs in an efficient manner with efficient and effective use of tools and resources. If they are negligent in their job, unnecessary costs would be incurred via equipment replacement costs.
Judgement and Decisions: Basic logical decisions. Decisions limited to the work order at hand. Most other decisions would be made as a team. Good judgment concerning safe working practices.
Nature of Contacts: Other staff and faculty. To provide or get information to discuss and seek understanding in order to perform job assignment to obtain a satisfactory outcome.
Physical Demands: Must be able to walk, lift, and bend as well as work from a ladder, work in a confined space, and carry up to fifty pounds. Must be able to hear to communicate via radio to contact each other to help with jobs. Visual acuity is required to drive on and between campuses, as well as the need to have color perception when painting or doing electrical work. Not being able to differentiate between colors while connecting electrical wire could result in someone’s death.
Hazards: Extreme heat and cold as well as dirty conditions like dust, working at heights above 30 feet. Blood borne pathogens, electrical shock, back injury, chemical burns, loss of appendages, chemical fumes, bomb threats, falling from ladders, crushed hand, foot or other body parts.
