The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch, Office of the Probate Court Administrator, is seeking a Communications Assistant for a part-time position (19 hours/week) as a professional writer to perform promotional, informational, educational, and other public relations functions for the Probate Court Administrator.

The preferred candidate will prepare, write, design, and produce communication materials such as reports, newsletters, news releases, pamphlets, brochures, exhibits, bulletins, and other agency publications.  The selected candidate will also monitor the printing of communication materials, assist in the preparation of speeches and materials for release to the media, monitor news coverage, assist with the planning and coordinating of special events, including taking event pictures, and provide technical assistance to management regarding communications. The agency utilizes Adobe InDesign to produce a number of its graphic design assets.

Salary Range: $30.35 - $38.96/hourly – plus State of Connecticut benefits. New employees begin at the minimum.  The starting salary for existing state employees may be higher than the minimum, in accordance with existing Judicial Branch policy.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

General Experience: Five (5) years of experience in communications or public relations work.

Substitutions Allowed:

College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor’s degree.

A Master’s degree in Communications or a related field may be substituted for General Experience.
