Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) is currently the fourth largest of N.C. Community College System’s 58 institutions. The Grant/Research Project Assistant supports data collection, data analysis, report submission, and major project related activities for the Department of Labor grant, Aligning the Workforce and Education System for Manufacturing (AWESM). 
 
The successful candidate must utilize a variety of applications to produce reliable, accurate, and dependable information in support of the goals of the AWESM grant. This includes writing queries to extract raw data from diverse sources of campus data including the college’s relational database, Colleague. Additionally, the individual must be able to join, manipulate and analyze data to support requests for information. This includes writing, running, and troubleshooting Base SAS code to enhance and facilitate reporting solutions. Lastly, the individual must have the capability to write valid and reliable survey questions and collect and analyze survey results. 
 
During the term of the grant, the position also provides effective project management in support of identified goals/activities. The successful candidate must be able to communicate and collaborate effectively with both internal and external constituencies affiliated with the AWESM grant.
 
This position is grant-funded through January 2025.
Duties/Functions
  • Utilize available tools (Informer, SQL, Base SAS, Excel, Access) to write queries, extract data and render reports through various mediums to analyze data related to the AWESM grant.
  • Coordinates grant data submission and supports reporting requirements for the AWESM.
  • Coordinate grant activities such as purchasing, payroll, meetings and travel ensuring compliance with federal guidelines.  
  • Provide data collection and analyses of the AWESM grant objectives and other related student success metrics. 
  • Write, implement, and analyze surveys for assessing the AWESM grant.
  • Coordinate and attend AWESM meetings as needed

Education Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution 
Education Preferred
  • Graduate credit hours in quantitative research and statistics from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution 
Experience Required
  • Proficient in writing and running analyses in a statistical program (i.e. SAS, R, SPSS)
  • Experience in Excel, Word, Access and/or another database querying tool
  • Experience with grant project management
Experience Preferred
  • Experience with SAS and/or SQL
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague, or similar ERP system
  • Experience with Informer or similar ERP querying tool
  • Experience working with federal grant management/reporting
KSA Required
  • Proven skills in the sophisticated use of data management and reporting tools such as SAS, Excel, Access.
  • Experience with FERPA as it relates to student data.
  • Uncompromising attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Utilizes best practices in data visualization.
  • Ability to develop queries to extract, manipulate, and/or calculate information to fulfill data and reporting requirements. 
  • The ability to work effectively with all segments of the college and grant partner sister colleges.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in identifying solutions to problems that arise in responding to unexpected and time-sensitive requests for information.
  • Experience recognizing and working with data anomalies.
  • Ability to work well with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven experience with communicating verbally and through the writing of results and implications of data analyses.  
KSA Preferred
  • Familiarity (developed with direct experience) with higher education organizational structure and business processes.
  • High level of knowledge regarding industry best practices established for business intelligence reporting and applicability to a higher education environment.
