Performs mechanical and minor electrical work in support of the maintenance function.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

  • Operates and maintains heating, utility supply and disposal systems, mechanical systems, low pressure water and fire tubed boilers, gas and oil fired forced air type furnace and all related systems, heat exchangers, pumps, motors, valves, domestic hot and cold water systems, condensate systems, traps and controls.
  • Operates and maintains HVAC systems, including refrigeration compressors, air and water type evaporative condensers.
  • Monitors assigned areas and replaces burned-out lamps.
  • Performs repair of damaged diffusers or fixtures.
  • Assembles and uses scaffolding.  Operates lift devices.
  • Requests adequate supplies necessary for the replacement and repair of items pertinent to basic continued service functions of the terminal and other facilities.
  • Repairs and maintains overhead doors, automatic doors, air compressors and related systems.
  • Paints, repairs vinyl and wall.
  • Provides aid and guidance to the Public.
  • Notifies the Airport's Maintenance Manager of any job related problems including accidents and/or injuries.
  • Observes all safety rules and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs snow and ice control duties as required.
  • Performs janitorial duties, pick and shovel work.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Experience/Education:
  • Four years experience working in the above related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Within 90 days of hire must possess both a current State of Washington or City of Spokane Third Class Stationary Engineers license or a CFC Type I, II EPA approved certificate for refrigeration. Failure to obtain within 90 days may result in termination.
  • Valid sate motor vehicle license, free of serious or frequent traffic violations.
  • Must have poise and personal bearing to deal with all people. Must be able to establish a work relationship with peers, supervisor, and public.
 
Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to operate job related equipment.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must be able to maintain mobility within all areas of responsibilities.
  • Position requires being able to use hands to finger, handle and feel. Must be able to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to climb and balance as well as being able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Must be able to talk, hear and smell.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis with the ability to lift 75 pounds on occasion.

  •  All applicants must be able to obtain and maintain Airport security badge as condition of employment.

Working Conditions, Travel, Environment and Potential Hazards:  
  • Travel in local area. Attend education up-date classes. Work performed primarily in and around the Airport Terminal Facilities Complex. Work performed around moving, mechanical parts and some work is performed in high, precarious places. Some exposure to fumes and airborne particles. Also exposure to cold, heat and outside weather conditions. Some exposure to electrical shock risk and vibration. Moderately noisy to loud work environment. Hearing protection and safety glasses provided and required for some tasks.

  • Will be trained to operate specialized equipment

Spokane Airport provides generous a generous benefit package.  Currently, we cover the employee at 100% of the premium cost and any dependents at 70%.  We offer three plan choices for medical coverage through Kaiser Permanente.  Dental coverage is through Washington Dental Service (Delta Dental).  Additionally, the Airport provides life insurance at two times the annual salary.  Optional life insurance is also available.  Retirement is through the Washington State Department of Retirement System - PERS Plan.  Parking is provided.

The Airport recognizes 11 holidays.  Vacation is earned at eight (8) hours a month for the first five (5) years and increases every five (5) years.  Sick leave accrues at eight (8) hours a month.  The Airport also provides military and jury leave.

There is a one year probationary period.
