I. Purpose

To ensure all products manufactured and assembled by Maud Borup are of highest quality and in compliance with all pertaining food safety regulations.

II. Duties

1.   Monitors quality and food safety at each step of manufacture and assembly of finished product by verifying against Maud Borup Product Specification Sheets, and pertaining SOPs and programs.

2.   Conducts and documents quality and food safety checks and ensures employees are taking responsibility for making quality decisions.

3.   Directs Assemblers with positive motivation to produce quality and safe products. Conveys pertinent information to personnel so production continues to flow smoothly and efficiently.   

4.   Works with production staff when manufacturing issues arise, suggests, and implements corrective actions, promotes continuous improvement.   

5.   In conjunction with Line Leads and Quality Manager, directs personnel on startup of new jobs and ensures that specifications, special instructions, packing, and quality control requirements are understood and followed.

6.   Ensures food quality and food safety standards are adhered to, understood, and employees know what to do if quality is not within specs or if food safety concerns arise.

7.   Provides training for new and seasonal QC hires.      

8.   Assures plant and warehouse compliance with allergen program.

9.   Maintains calibration program and records. Assures all measuring and CCP equipment is calibrated at specified frequency. Responsible for scale calibrations and weekly cleaning.

10.  Maintains Environmental program and records. Conducts allergen, ATP and microbial testing as required by SOP.

11.  Assists with Implementation of Sanitation Program.

12.  Assists Quality Manager with implementation of the SQF system.

13.  Assist Quality Manager with preparation for, and provides support during SQF, QAI, GFCO, and other external audits.

14.  Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly audits including but not limited to allergen, organic, GMP, chemical inventory, glass and brittle plastics audits, temperature and humidity monitoring.  

15.  Responsible for collecting retain samples, cataloging and reviewing samples upon reaching assigned shelf life. Communicates findings and suggests improvements to product formulation and packaging,

16.  Contributes to team effort by accomplishing tasks as needed. Provides strong leadership to production personnel and QC staff.  Maintains a professional appearance and attitude at all times.

17.  Promotes teamwork and positive relations among all contacts by setting positive examples to their staff.

18.  Responsible for working safely and maintaining a safe work environment: attends required training, identifies and reports hazards; wears required PPE for position; and is accountable for self as well as co-worker safety.

19.  Back up to Quality Assurance Technician as needed.

III.  Knowledge

1. Requirements

·         2-5 years of QA/QC experience in food manufacturing environment

·         SQF Practitioner certification and working knowledge of SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing and continuous improvement methods

·         HACCP certification

·         PCQI certification 

·         Ability to perform diverse tasks in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. 

·         Able to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and manufacturing personnel. 

·         Good organizational and decision-making skills

·         Attention to detail is a must

·         Knowledge of packaging processes and quality control principles. 

·         Ability to work well with people and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

·         Ability to work as a team member at all levels throughout the organization.

·         Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook

·         Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements in the food industry

V. Responsibility

The employee in this position is responsible for monitoring quality and food safety at each step of manufacture and assembly of finished product. Backups for this position are Production Supervisor and Quality Manager.

VI. Physical Requirements

Requires the ability to move about the facility and communicate with contacts.  Must be able to operate office/production equipment.
