  • This role directly serves as both a strategic advisor responsible for facilitating on behalf of UH System Executive Leadership, with UH system-level Value Improvement Program (VIP) initiative leaders in defining scope, design, implementation, control and validation of initiative outcomes results to target for multiple VIP Process Improvement (PI) initiative patient safety, quality outcomes, patient satisfaction and financial benefits.
  • The role also includes providing the same VIP support service to their assigned multiple Community Hospital facilities and serves as a coach and mentor to Operations Engineers. The Senior Operations Engineer either directly assists or coordinates appropriate Operational Effectiveness resources to assist UH System level and Community Hospital VIP teams with:
    • Documentation and analysis of complex current state processes, working with diverse interdisciplinary teams composed of 15 – 30 cross-functional subject matter experts across the UH System
    • Evaluate “Best Practice” benchmarks and best practice model examples, recommending strategic implementation at Community Hospitals and/or across UH
    • Analyzing data to measure current UH process performance to best practices to identify, quantify and prioritize PI opportunities and efforts
    • Evaluate waste versus value-added activities based on Voice of the Customer (VOC) service needs and expectations
    • Strategic design and development of metrics that measure newly implemented processes to evaluate and validate initiative success to include patient safety, quality outcomes, patient satisfaction and financial benefit
    • Advice and guidance for VIP teams in creating measures of financial benefit and coordinating dollar value validation process with UH Corporate Finance, and facility Finance Managers to determine benefit outcomes versus targets
    • Ensure that VIP initiative and finance leads report financial results within prescribed deadlines
    • Identify and communicate risks associated with implementation of assigned strategic VIP initiatives
  • Manages, builds and maintains customers relationships at all levels of the UH organization including UH System Executives, Directors and Managers, and at all leadership levels at both Cleveland Medical Center and all Community Hospitals.
  • Coaches and mentors Operations Engineers, Operations Analysts and Interns in performance of their respective responsibilities
  • Maintains updated knowledge of and uses different project management methodologies, tools, and approaches including Lean and Six Sigma Principles.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) and advocate for Lean Six Sigma principles throughout the organization.
  • In partnership with VIP initiative leaders and key stakeholders, manage and monitor change controls associated with strategic process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains expertise in project disciplines (e.g., DMAIC, Lean, A3, Kaizen, Six Sigma, TOPS and PDCA) process workflow planning, redesign, proof of concept testing and full implementation of effective PI designs.
  • This position will share responsibility for planning, preparing for and assisting in the execution of Continuous Improvement Kaizen Events and projects strategically targeted towards rapidly improving specific areas of the hospital's performance. 
  • Assists VIP initiative leads with preparation of written and oral presentations, in partnership with key project stakeholders, to provide overview of project status, issues, risks and results for delivery to Executive forums (VIP Executive Steering Committee, Operations Group and Community Hospital Presidents).
  • Provides strategic advisory services to Operational Effectiveness team VIP initiative teams, and facility leadership.
  • Deliver significant and quantifiable VIP process improvement and achieve targeted financial benefit across the organization on assigned initiatives through supporting the efforts of System level and Community Hospital VIP initiative teams.

Education

  • Bachelor degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred

Experience & Knowledge:

  • 5 years of progressive experience with process redesign, system implementation, return on investment, and organizational change initiatives.
  • 5 years of experience working in healthcare environment preferred.
  • High standards of integrity, strong personal work ethic, creative problem solving skills, and flexible work approach required.
  • Exceptional client service, communication, presentation and relationship building skills required. 
  • Ability to function independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment required. 
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.

Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) required.   Minitab statistical software capability preferred.
