Summary

First round interviews are anticipated for the week of June 20th . Second round interviews are anticipated for the week June 26th .

In this role, you will have the exciting opportunity to prepare for and lead the Department of Natural Resources and Parks response to emergencies and disasters. You will work with dedicated and talented employees who are committed to ensuring equity and are passionate about serving the community during challenging times. As the lead, you will knit together separate efforts from within five divisions, community and private business partnerships/programs to create a coordinated approach to emergency preparedness for over 2000 employees and the residents we serve in King County. You will also work closely with the King County Office of Emergency Management and other local/state/regional partners.

Job Duties
  • Ensure alignment and work collaboratively with department leadership, division staff and community partners to support, develop, design, and implement various all-hazards preparedness programs, strategies, and initiatives.
  • Manage, lead, and coordinate the development, updates, and maintenance to the department and division specific Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP). Conduct department-wide COOP training and exercises, aswell as support countywide efforts.
  • Participate in national learning communities to share King County's experience, learn from other communities and jurisdictions, and stay current with relevant research and trends.
  • Activate and ensure staffing of the DNRP's emergency operations and Emergency Support Function (ESF) roles and responsibilities.
  • Serve as area commander and/or other command roles during the response, as needed.
  • Ensure after action reviews are conducted and documented following emergency response activations.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
  • Experience leading work with emergency plans and procedures. Knowledge of current emergency management laws, regulations, principles, and practices, and Federal grant programs.
  • Experience analyzing current emergency management strategies for gaps and documenting those findings in written reports.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, program management and principles and practices in grant management.
  • Experience in policy, protocol, or program planning/development.
  • Experience working within a large or complex organization that required the ability to remain flexible and adaptable to accomplish emergency management goals.
  • Proficient with the use of office productivity tools in daily work.
  • Experience creating and maintaining an inclusive, respectful and culturally responsive workplace.
Necessary Special Requirement:
  • A valid Washington State Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications: Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience leading work with emergency plans and procedures in a large governmental or private/community organization.
  • Project Management experience that includes working with multiple stakeholders
  • Training and knowledge of basic ICS/NIMS (IS-100, 200, 700, 800)
  • Certification or Professional Development in Emergency Management.

Working Conditions:
Telecommuting and King Street Center
The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at various locations within King County. The successful candidate will have the ability to telecommute, as influenced by business needs. Employee will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours when working remotely.

Work Location: Visits King County worksites as needed and telework when appropriate. Locations include: KCOEM - Renton, King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson Street, Seattle, and/or other various DNRP work locations as directed.

Work Schedule: T his position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. Monday through Friday. This position is considered Mission-Critical. The candidate will work extended hours, nights, and weekends with minimal notice and/or report physically to one of our locations.
