TRAINING SPECIALIST

Job Duties: Using expertise and knowledge of the stone setting, jewelry making, metalsmithing and goldsmithing, and engraving methods, provide instruction and training in Glendo’s specific training programs, including: stone setting, pavé setting, channel, fishtail, French cut, bead and burnish setting, scrolls, lettering and monograming, relief engraving, inlay/overlay techniques and bulino. Use teaching ability to teach stone setting and engraving to the novice as well as the highest professional levels, including at tradeshows, workshops, and jeweler manufacturer locations in the United States and abroad. Design, plan, organize, and develop curricula and training programs for the Glendo training center and Glendo employees.

Evaluate training needs and opportunities through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultations with managers, other GRS instructors, or dealers and customers. Conduct and/or provide, both internally and externally, technical demonstrations with GRS tools and accessories to Glendo employees, customers, dealers, and show/seminar participants. Present information using a variety of instructional techniques or formats, such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos, or lectures. Train students within Glendo’s Artisan Alley on projects and schedules, providing engraving arts students access to tools, hands-on training, and knowledge of the engraving arts and the jewelry trades. Obtain, organize, or develop training procedure manuals, guides, course materials, such as handouts or visual materials for use in the GRS training center, technical support, customer support, and dealers. Provide training in engraving and stone setting techniques to be videoed for customers and company website. Monitor, evaluate, and record training activities to determine program effectiveness. Evaluate modes of training delivery, such as in-person or virtual to optimize training effectiveness and training costs. Keep up global with market developments, trends, and styles in areas of expertise by reading current journals, books, magazine articles, attending symposiums, shows, and outside training for use in advancing/updating training programs. Use expertise and knowledge of the stone setting, jewelry making, metalsmithing and goldsmithing, and engraving industries to provide management with feedback for product research and development projects, ideas, and technical details.

Minimum Education Requirement: 2 years of vocational training in goldsmithing or silversmithing at a vocational school; foreign vocational school acceptable. Minimum Certification Requirement: Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Diamonds & Diamond Grading Certificate, Diamond setting course diploma or certificate, and  Engraving course diploma or certificate.

Travel: Position is based in Kansas. Travel will be required domestically and internationally to shows, teach classes/seminars, train manufacturing customers, and provide instruction for overseas dealers. 50% - 75%
